The wife and I are headed to the Orlando area for a wedding in Mid-September, we are going mid-week so she can help with the wedding setup, and I'm free to play golf for a couple of days with the groom.

I'm looking for suggestions for courses in the area, I'd like to spend no more than $100 per round, and we're not staying at a resort with an associated course so places like Bay Hill are out (gotta be a guest of the resort to play).

Thanks in advance.

You might try a quick search as the question comes up every now and then. I will always recommend Orange County National. 2 courses, both great and always well maintained. As an added bonus, they treat you like royalty out there. They play the finals of the PGA Q-school there every other year, so suffice it to say, the courses can be as challenging as you want to make them! Lot's of other very good options in Orlando, but you won't do better than OCN. www.ocngolf.com

Spent 2 months in Fl and played Lake Orlando, decent course, tight and the price at the time I was there "Great". If you don't mind a little drive down the Turnpike to St Cloud, I played the "Links at St Cloud" or what ever it's name was. I tell you it was a very ,very, good course. Maintained great, fairways and greens in fantastic shape and a great driving range, putting green and a 90 yd chip and pitching practice area. Take the Fl turnpike south to Kissimmee,St Cloud Rt. 192 exit, Left on 192 to Michigan Rd , turn right and go to the end of the road. Don't know the time frame ,but they put in another 9 holes that wasn't open yet but what I could see of it ,it's going to be great also. Wish I was going back or better yet that I had never left, came back to IN and high of 36 with snow showers.......gotta love it.

Orange County National sounds great.

Between the two 18 hole courses, Crooked Cat and Panther Lake, does anyone have a preference and a reason why they prefer one over the other?

Thanks for all the suggestions, please keep them coming.

I'll definitely hop on the OCN wagon too. My thoughts just echo what's already been said by others-can't go wrong (and they do treat you well there).

Out of the two (I played Panther Lake), everyone I've spoke too who's also played it (friends) said they enjoyed Panther Lake more of the two, but you can't really go wrong with either. The club staff also said most people prefer PL.

If you do have some time and don't mind driving say 30 minutes or so, I'd HIGHLY recommend driving east to DeLand and playing Victoria Hills. Always very highly rated in all the "Best Courses" magazines such as Golf Digest, Golf Week, etc. I've played that several times (friends live just down the street from it). Very, very nice.

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
