Hello,

My name is Paul I am from Morris County, NJ. I'm 22 years old , I dispatch for a Police Department hoping to become a Police Officer soon. I haven't got into golf too seriously until the last couple years but I've been playing since I was about 14. I never used to keep track of my handicap because I was too lazy to enter it in the computer but this year I have 4 scores entered so far. I usually shoot between 86-94 consistently but have only shot in the 90's once this year.
I hope to expand my knowledge of the game from reading this forum and excited I found this place! My goals for this year is to practice and break 80 at some point.

In my bag:

Driver: Taylor Made Tour Burner - 9.5
Irons: Ping i3 - 3-P
Sand wedge: Ping i2
Putter: Odyssey White Hot 2Ball

Another one of my goals is to buy a 60 degree wedge and a 3 wood. I think that will improve my game.

I look forward to reading the endless knowledge here!

Welcome to the sandtrap.

Welcome.

I know you say you have a goal to add a 3 wood and 60* wedge, but I think, based on what you're currently gaming, you would benefit a lot more from a 3 and/or 4 hybrid than from a 60. I gamed a 60 for years, then finally switched to a 58 and always liked having it. However, when I bought my last set of irons I switched to a 56* SW and I find I really do not need a lob wedge. Good hybrids will improve your game more than a 60 will for sure. I know the long irons in the i3's are not the easiest clubs in the world to hit consistently well.

I never thought of picking up a hybrid. You're right my low irons are hard to hit consistantly ...especially my 3 iron. So you are saying to go for a 3 hybrid and don't go with a 60? Thanks for the input already!

Go to a demo day and find out which 3/4/5 woods and hybrids, you hit the best off the grass consistently. This will drop your scores even more. You are definitely playing good golf with scores like that. I play a tp wedge, 54* bent to 57*, and hit it well.

    • Are we having a 2025 version? Only asking as I have three up my sleeve so far 😀
    • Day 31: 1/10/2025 Not much time today. I did get at least 5 minutes in though because of the 7 iron outside my office door. Every time I went in or out I got a minute or two of mirror work in.
    • Day 11: 1/10/25 Indoor chipping and backswing pressure drills.
    • Day 251 (10 Jan 25) - Was hoping the Friday group would play today, but it was a not go (I was a lone ranger).  Of course temps around 30 with some wind chill - so it was not a fair weather day.  Since I was going out solo - decided to play one of my faves - play from a different tee on each hole.  To keep it simple, I started from the tips (blue) and worked progressively through the tees - whites on 2, gold on 3, red on 4, grey on 5, back to blue on 6, etc.  Really changes how you work the approach game as I tend to play from the golds most days.  1st learning moment - fairways were firm and greens like industrial carpet on concrete.  So hunting pins was out - it was a day scrubbing speed with hitting a little short to let the ball scrub and roll out.  2nd learning moment - body is not as flexible so I had plenty of push slices, so the left side stayed pretty much out of play.  3rd learning moment - course played about 2 clubs longer, which was expected which meant more bogies and birdie looks were few and far in between.  Still managed an 86, so it was a good day for a practice round of a different kind.
    • Day 177: did a stack session.
