I've had my CG12 black pearl 54* for a year or so and I've come to notice yesterday during my round i was seeing some rusting on the sole of the club and the first 3 sets of grooves...any ideas on a wedge that wont' rust? i've been in the market and don't know if the vokey's do the same thing over time or if they'd hold up without rust. (need an excuse to update the wedges haha)...any help or opinions are welcomed.

Chromed wedges are less likely to rust, but of course once the chrome gets somewhat worn rust will begin to form. The older Clevelands made from the CMM material did not rust (CG10/11).

Rust on wedges at the sole and faces are not a bad thing. You can probably just brush it off with a plastic bristle brush, but it doesn't affect they way they play. The softer carbon steels used in these better quality wedges rust up quickly unless they have been finished (such as the chrome or nickle finishes of some wedges).

Understood, I was just wondering if by chance the Vokey Spin milled tour chrome's would be a better chance of stayin clean and rust-free. I'm due for a new wedge so it's not a big deal i was just hoping for a suggestion as to a wedge that's had a significant ability to fend off rust and last for quite some time without having an issue. any suggestions or opinions?

Any of the chrome wedges will not rust for a while. Once they are worn they will but this will be a couple of years.

I've had my 60* vokey for a year and a half or so. No signs of rust as of yet. Also, the ball is still getting plenty of zip even after 50+ rounds and range time with it.

That's great to hear, i play about that per year (50+ rounds) and you have the same gaps between your wedges as i do, for whatever reason i bought a 54 out of stupidity and lack of information/know how about gaps. i'm looking to get the 56 and 60...thanks

This could be an Urban Legend but I have heard several times that a rusty wedge is a good wedge. That you can get greater control and spin... Did I just prove my ignorance or is this valid?

If I could go back, I'd buy a 54 instead of the 56. I'm thinking of bending my 56 to 54 as we speak. My pw goes about 140, my 56 goes about 115, and my lob is about 95. I think I want something that goes 125 or so and I think that a 54 would really fill these gaps nicely.

Myth. Urban Legend. Old Wive's Tale. Etc.

Rust doesn't give you more spin. At best it gives you the same, and at worst it gives you less (and inconsistently so).

Chrome wedges will go the longest before they rust because the chrome acts as a protective layer.
One thing you can do is hit more sand shots. The sand will wear the rust off your wedge.

Thats an urban legend. Rust on the grooves means the grooves are rusting away, which means they wont be as sharp as they once were, which will result in less spin.

Keep your clubs clean and dry. That's all I ever do. There's no need to do any more than that.

i'll find a wedge that doesn't rust...sorry but going into the sand to clean my wedge is kind of a rediculous solution...lol...i don't WANT to go in sand

Steel wool and it's gone. Promise.. the new 2009 Vokey Design SM's even say it on the shaft same as Scotty Cameron putting oiling instructions on certain putters.

I don't care for chrome much, I've always seemed to play darker, rustier wedges to minimize glare, and I just really like the way they frame ball around the green, especially those Gunmetal Cleveland wedges, man they were the best.

My brother is playing the Callaway C-Grind Vintage Wedges and really likes them.

Just clean and lightly oil them after a round. WD40 or RemOil works well at preventing rust.
