My Senior year is coming up and I got to start thinking of some colleges to go too. Golf is deffianetly a priority, however I dont think im at the skill level to play on a division one team.. What are some great colleges to look at when it comes to golf.. any division any where, and of course money is an issue but maybe something will work out, Im not to shure what specifics im going to study, maybe more along the lines of engineering. Anyways I thought I should ask for some advice/help from you guys!

check out elon university...i wanna go there even though im just a sophomore. They have a golf team, but you need to be around scratch, just like most colleges! They do have a driving range on campus and a club golf program though. Good luck!

I'm not sure many people are going to know too much about golf other than division one schools. If you arent division one caliber and still want to play just check out some smaller local collegs in your area.

I'm going to purdue next summer and studying engineering and they have 3 golf courses ON CAMPUS, as well as over 10 in the surrounding area of west lafayette.

Also, no offense, but i personally know someone who is going to wake on a full ride for golf, and hes a scratch. So basically your not going to go to any D1 school for golf unless you are insane at golf.

Ignorant responses. I have less than perfect grammar and I'm going to a very good school. Typing on an internet forum doesn't show the whole story and he wants to be an engineer, so english is less important than other things like math and science.

As a very successful Electrical Engineer I can state with experience and expertise that proper written and verbal communication are essential and typically more important than math and science in Engineering. Otherwise, when the folks you quoted were telling the OP to get his priorities straight, they could have done it in a more reasonable fashion. Regards, -E

As I totally agree(I worked as a drafter over the summer and worked with engineers), things like that can be caught when using word and more effort is put in when it's towards something more important than a golf forum. Math is still much more important when getting into a university. My math and science scores were much higher than my english and reading scores on the ACT.

My first thought is that if you are just now getting started on this, you are probably way behind the curve already. My guess is that folks who get the few scholarships out there to play golf are already playing in as many junior tournaments as they can, making a bit of a name for themselves, letting the golf coaches come and watch them play, etc. A few weeks back, I was watching a program on TGC showing the golf school that Hank Haney does for aspiring college golfers, and they start early, work their tails off at their game, while keeping their grades up, and still Haney has to make calls and sell these players to their future college coaches (even then, if they get a scholarship, they are sometimes just 1/2 scholarships). If you aspire to play college golf, even on a small division level, you should probably get real busy right now.

Well this fall I will be attending a division 3 school in MN, and I want to play on the golf team but they only take 15 players and the coach said they are all at or under a 3 handicap. I will need to work hard, but the competition these days is stronger than ever.

Not to be a stickler. If your handicap is really around a 17; I'm just curious how you plan to play golf on a collegiate level? Two of my friends play college golf, one at a Division 2 and one at a Division 3... They are both 2-scratch handicap golfers.

Ya, generally golfers good enough to play in college wouldnt have to ask us. No offense bud, just stating truth.

Save a little extra, get a student membership somewhere, and enjoy playing whenever you can.

Many schools have 'golf clubs', which often compete in open competitions, as well as friendly and liesure play. Check out those.

Man you need to come to Mississippi State! We have an excellent Golf team and even tons of golf majors! PGM (Pro Golf Management) and a few others as well. I'm not the best person to get info from! www.msstate.edu

I have never heard of any college level player that shoots that high.

Perhaps this is a good time to set some other goals.

wake? the "l" is next to the "k". how did you forget it? and how did you get "e" in there? i think you need to focus on your school work before having pipe dreams of becoming tiger woods.

Unless you have serious ambitions of turning professional then I'd suggest you think about the quality of the education you're going to get over what sort of golf team a school has; because in reality, you're most likely going to end up making a living off of the degree you end up getting, not the school's golf team.

      For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...

      Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!

      Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?

      Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity.       Where Is Your Next Golf Trip Going to Be?

      Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
