Going in the morning to pick up a Burner driver OR a Diablo. Both come with a free fairway wood.

I have only hit the Burner, but I plan on hitting them both tomorrow. I fell in love with the Burner. I was hitting it with the stiff shaft into the net at Dicks and it felt great. Hitting it straight at about 290 yds at 108mph. Felt awesome.

Anybody have any input on the Diablo? Or the fairway woods between the two?

I'm super excited. Going to play 9 holes in the morning and then heading to Dicks to pick up the clubs, then back to the course for another 18+ holes. AWESOME!

While drivers, like almost everything else in golf, is a very personal choice, I can't stand the way the Diablo looks at address. I also do not like it's sound, although I recently hit it and liked the feel. I much prefer the Taylor Made drivers because I like the feel and sound and the look doesn't bother me - it's a little too big, but I prefer a smaller head. The only issue I have with the TM is that it is even longer than previous models by 1/2 inch I believe.

I just recently bought an '07 Burner. I tried the Diablo and hated it. Did not like the look at address, the sound, and the ball flight was too high for me (could have been the shaft though). The Burner felt very good and looks even better. I had been using a Cleveland Launcher and the TM is about 1/2" longer than the Cleveland but it did not bother me a bit. My driver yardage increased by about 8 yards and the spin is much lower than the Cleveland.

FWIW: I also tried the '09 Burner but I did not care for it as much as I did the '07. I had a pretty nasty hook with the '09. I thought it might have just been that day, but I went back and tried it a few days later and the hook was still there. The face on the '07felt more solid as well.

My club is having a sort of "demo day" on Thursday. A Callaway Rep is coming with a small selection of clubs for the pro shop, along with some demos. The Pro invited 6 of us to come over for some tryouts. Although I just got my Cleveland HiBore XLS, I am very interested in the Diablo. I want to give it a try with the DVS reg shaft on the range. I'll post MY opinion Thursday night, maybe that would help.

I agree that the regular Diablo clubs are ugly, but I think the Diablo Tour driver and 3 wood look pretty nice. Mickelson uses a 13 degree Diablo Tour strong 3 wood now and absolutely kills it.

I have yet to try hitting one but I have heard that they are not much for shot-making clubs, just high launch, straight, and long.

Those weren't my exact numbers. I was just guessing what it was. I was a little off. Today when I swung in there again, I was swinging right at 100 and I want to say it was registering 220-240. I can't remember. Hitting into a net and hitting on a fairway is two completely different worlds. All numbers aside, I love my driver.

    • Late morning, short gym session for press.  Four sets of five, 105 lbs.
    • First, you have some great choices in there.  Event Horizon remains a birdie movie for me.  It still finds its way onto the October options as Halloween approaches.  It fits well. I continue to forget that Arrival, when being referenced, is not the Charlie Sheen movie I saw in middle school. Lastly, what rating are you giving HG2?  Was it a par?  Bogey?  I gather from your review it didn't earn a hole in one on a par-4.  (I have yet to decide how I'm prioritizing that on my movie queue, and if I should even bother, so I'm looking forward to reviews here)
    • I loved Arrival. Annihilation is a good one. Event Horizon is also one of my classic sci-fi favorites. And now for something completely different: Happy Gilmore 2. I watched HG1 as an adult, and it was alright, but probably would have been better if I watched it as a kid. HG2 had some good parts, but overall I wasn't a big fan. I knew there would be pros in the movie, but I imagined some cameos, not them being straight up actors through large parts of the movie. They're not actors and it showed. I could've done with a lot less of them and John Daly was maybe the best of the pros. The Maxi part was boring.

    • Did I miss what your handicap was or how long you’ve been playing?  That Garmin chart is pretty useless.  Is the max number one of the numbers used to compute the average?  Without the chart don’t know how far you hit your clubs?  What do you hit from 150, ,160 etc…. Not looking at max and figuring the other numbers will probably have 10 yards of roll built in. It seems your launch and peak height are low.  I’d probably go Driver/5 wood/7 wood/ 5 iron
