When I'm at the range, in my hitting bay, or on the course, I constantly talk to myself about what I'm doing right or wrong, even berating myself when necessary. I can only imagine how that must sound to everyone else!

They say you're not crazy if you talk to yourself, only if you answer back. Well, I guess that means I'm a loon, and I just wanted to know if I'm going bonkers by myself.

So how about it.....do you talk to yourself while golfing?

Dude, I'm my own caddy, shrink, and commentator. I think it's more common than people let on.

I try to keep the committee out of it on the course. Years ago I had a swing coach who noticed my running dialogue and mentioned that if my friends talked to me on the course the way I talked to myself, that I'd want to kick their ass!

I talk to myself occaisionally but its only a low mumble like "I picked my head up" or "Not on plane....". Its nothing dramatic.

There's a man that practices at my home course on the range all the time. I always see him chipping and putting and he rides his bike there. He talks to himself. Extremely. He yells at himself. He also sings songs out loud. So everyone can hear him. It can get very annoying when you are trying to focus on your own game. I'm all for talking to yourself, but keep it on the down-low please?

There's a major difference between talking to yourself, or even chastising yourself, and being a complete freak! I'm just glad to see that I'm not the only one!

Yes! I constantly beat myself up,use "bad language" to myself, and then realize a bogey is certainly better than work.Wait,Rob,what did you say? See, I`m doing it now!

I'll sometimes mutter to myself at the range but I'm really trying to take bad shots in stride now. Just the other week, I saw someone muttering to himself at the range and looked absolutely flustered. I thought to myself, I'm glad I'm not like him. But then I realized, I was a lot like him! That was certainly a wake up call.

All the time. I talk more when I play by myself than I do when playing in a foursome because I'm conatantly talkin. It really funny because I rarely use profanity when talking to anyone else, but on the golf course 50% of what I say wouldn't be allowed in a PG-13 movie.

I talk to myself before a shot if I feel I need to calm down, relax, and enjoy the day. I try to encourage myself to be positive and it helps me keep a relaxed focus.

Man, this game is difficult enough without me cursing at myself. I do talk to myself but it's usually a conversation of encouragement. For example, after just topping a ball I'll say "stay down on this". Probably the words I say to myself most often is "just relax".

Yeah it's an unconscious reaction no matter how good or bad the shot is....I find it quite helpful to be totally honest with myself especially during practice. Most times I'm sort of like my own Johnny Miller when he's watching someone blow a 2 shot lead in the last couple holes, just a bit more unrestrained and vicious.

I'll usually just say the occasional "WTF" or "Geez that was bad"; just comments on what a poor shot or putt it was. I'll never say out loud what I THINK I did wrong like "man I can't believe I didn't release my hands causing that slice!!" cuz then I'll just look like a douche who thinks I know it all. I hate that crap.

I talk to myself, alot. Pretty loudly too. It's just a habit I cannot break, plus it helps my mind slow down and vent frustration faster.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
