sp33...I hear ya. I love nothing more than grabbing a glass of Woodford Reserve Bourbon (as close to scotch as I get these days) along with an AVO XO cigar and sitting out in the early evening. Its the only thing that can rival a good 18 holes.

What do you guys think about mixing Scotch with water? From what I gather it's a pretty common practice but I could never figure out how much you're supposed to add (the water we have where I live is very pure and has no chlorine in it or anything so that's not an issue). My Grandfather was Scottish and he drank Glenmorangie every day so we have a bottle of the 10 year old stuff that I've tried before but I'm not a big fan of spirits.

Scots will tell you that it's sacrilege to add water, or even ice to good whiskey.

I admit though, I like to add a cube or two of ice to cool it down . You'll also find that a very little water (as from the melting ice) will actually "open up" the whiskey a bit, similar to what you get when you allow an older, bigger red wine to breathe a bit before drinking. Of course, if you're drinking cheap scotch, nothing you do will either help or hurt it though......

I usually throw a couple splashes of bottled water in my scotch it opens the scotch up so to speak. Releases the taste and the aroma of it.

I mean spashes, a nominal amount.

If its cheap I'll do cubes and a splash, if its good i wont add anything to it.

I'll throw one cube in because I like the chilled flavors, but I find that I'd pour just a sip in my glass over a cube and finish that and leave the glass dry before I throw another sip in, or if I need to, I'll strain it through ice. Don't like too much water, but just that little bit of water and the cold give me that silky taste I like. Recently, I've been loving this abberfeldy.

I'd like to report after my cigar/scotch night my neighbors house still has all its windows. It was a perfect night mid 60's slight breeze partialy cloudy. Me my dog and my porch it was very nice. after about an hour I stood up, that was a bad idea, so i sat back down and drank more...

Off-topic but have you guys tried the Guiness 250 year anniversery? OMFG... it was O-face through the whole 4 bottles.

Not a big Scotch person though am more partial to a good single malt than blended.

My father's very big into single malts and on my trips over to see him he might break out a good'un that he thinks I might like. Most of the time they're wasted on me...
I was recently at a wedding that had JWBlue Label and Macallan 25 behind the open bar...

British Airways have JW Blue open pour in their First lounges and in longhaul First cabin. Can't stand the stuff neat but have been known to order it with Coke just because

Picked up a bottle of Aberlour 12 last friday, mmm that stuff is good. It changed its flavor completely with water, I've had scotch taste a little diffrent but this was like I was drinking a diffrent scotch all together.

Come in and talk about the bliss that only scotch can give :)

My tastes in fine spirits aren't that refined. I went to college at a school whose mascot is a Pirate.....you'd be right to sumise that I drank gallons of rum in those days.

It made a lasting mark...so much that on our honeymoon on a nice Caribean isle.....one afternoon found us on a tour of the local rum distillery. That afternoon was sheer genius........why.....because 15 years later I can make my wife a drink...at any time....with the fine rum made at this distillery and she thinks is because I'm being romantic. Yeah....I've spent numerous hours on the deck sipping some rum waiting on my gorgeous bride to return home and have a couple of rum toddies with me............... Life is good.....made better by fine spirits.

I can appreciate any fine spirit but my two favorites would be tequlia and scotch. I'll always take the fine tequila over the fine scotch due to it's unique flavor but when there isn't any good tequila a good scotch is always a nice treat. My girlfriend brought me back a bottle poured straight from the cask in Scotland last year. She told them to give me what the local people would enjoy and I got the strongest tasting scotch I'd ever had. I've had plenty of other brands but nothing tops the smokiness and strength of this stuff, it's really great.

Anyone tried Singleton 12 yr? Talk about a bang for the buck. Went to Scottish Festival and Highland Games with a buddy last month and ended up spending most of the time in the whisky tasting tent (10 or 15 different whiskys). It was a good day.

I am more of a whiskey/bourbon person...

I'd have to say that on a fall day, with the smell of falling leaves in the air, nothing beats walking down the fairway with a cigar in one hand and a flask to pass around in the other.

My favourite flask fillers: Aberlour, Highland Park , Talisker, Oban, Tamdhu, Lagavulin, and of course Laphroaig (try it with cola - just kidding - it tastes like poison).

Looking forward to September, Autumn, ALCS and NLCS, and late seaon golf!!!
