I'm sure we have some Orlando members on this forum... seeing how it is one of the greatest golf destinations in the country. I was wondering what everyone's favorite courses were.

I personally really like Stoneybrook West. I also LOVE, please hold the laughter, Rio Pinar. I know, it's old school, but it's not too hard and it's just a blast to play.

Lots of great options here......

Some of my favorites are:

Orange County National (Panther Lakes and Crooked Cat)
Eagle Dunes
Timacuan
Victoria Hills
Deltona Club
Magnolia Plantation

Stoneybrook West is a good track, but for the money it just doesn't really compare to OCN which is right around the corner.

One private course that's having a $50 "try it and see" special right now is RedTail. Worth going out to play even if you have no interest in shelling out big bucks for a membership.

I really liked Legends in Clermont, great deals!

I played there before and I didnt like it at all. Its a nice layout with all the elevation changes and everything. But generally i thought the place was a cow patch. Horribly maintained. I felt ripped off after my round.

My favorite course in the Orlando area is actually Hunters creek...lol. I like Royal St Cloud too.

We have friends that live in DeLand, so I've played Victoria Hills a few times. Highly recommended. Have also played Eagle Dunes and OCN once each. Also big thumbs up. I remember playing Eagle Dunes when the greens had just been aerated and they were still rocket fast; I was amazed. I remember reading an article about one of the courses down there getting a big makeover and it was either in Deltona (the one you mentioned) or DeBary. Do you know which one it was? I was wanting to play that next time I was in the area. Can't remember which magazine it was in.

Eagle Dunes has some of the best greens in Central FL........bar none.

You're thinking of Deltona Club. Used to be Deltona Hills. I really like the re-make and it's in pretty good shape but the greens are a little grainy. One other issue is that although there's a ton of bunkers on the course.....including a bunch of evil little pot bunkers, they play everything as waste area and don't provide any rakes at all. Other than that though, it's a lot of fun and worth the trip.

Thanks for the follow up. Just could not for the life of me remember if it was Deltona or not. I'll check it out next time I'm in the area.

And I agree with you on Eagle Dunes. Like I said they'd literally just aerated them and they were rockets. I even said to the pro in there if they're that fast after aerating, what the heck are they like when they're "good"? He just kind of smiled and laughed and told me they get a lot of PGA players in the area come over there just for the greens. Nice course; I enjoyed it and would play it again for sure. The story I remember from that course is we found some guys' PW on the very first hole. Picked it up figuring he'd come back in a hole or so to get it. Never did...so we gave it to the clubhouse at the turn. He FINALLY came back and asked, literally on hole #17 if we'd found it (told him we'd turned it in). Now maybe I'm doing something wrong....but how in the heck can you play 15 or 16 holes and not realize your PW is missing? Of all clubs?

I was in Orlando a few weeks back and only got out to play once. Hunters Creek was the spot we played and I enjoyed it. Why do you say that LOL when you said it was your favorite?

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Its kind of one of those typical residential orlando golf courses that nobody takes seriously. Its like the course you play because you cant afford celebration or the oragne national courses. Some crap like that. But i like Hunters Creek just as much as any of those courses. Great taylor ham breakfast sandwiches there, too.
