Well I'm taking the plunge, getting married in 4 months. I'm still in disbelief even though ive been engaged for over a year...

So I'm trying to find a nice place that is economical, not cheap but reasonable that will be fun for both of us (nice golf course is a plus for me) Getting married on Sept 19th, Was thinking about going east coastish but it really doesn't matter to me. I live an Iowa so anything is more fun than here ;) Cant go to Disney land, my son would kill me in my sleep.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I gave her the best proposal of anyone ive met, and a pretty decent wedding so I'm scaling back the honeymoon hehe.

Economical but really nice...........Destin, Florida. You have the some of the world's most beautiful beaches, shopping for the missus and plenty of golf courses for yourself. You can stay at a $1K a night or $200 a night resort, your choice.

Destin is the place that we chose. She wanted to get married on a beach and I just wanted somewhere close to some nice courses. Destin was a pretty good option for both of us. I opted for a condo for 7 days which isn't real cheap but it is not bad considering.....

Definitely has a kitchen....she lives with me already so she is very accustom to cooking now

The good thing about the kitchen is you can go grcery shopping for the week and you don't "have" to eat out every meal...hopefully this will save some money....money that I can use for golf

Seeing how your seeking advise on this site, would Myrtle Beach be too much to suggest ?

Based on previous posts a condo with a kitchen too. I like the way you are thinking :)
You have to let us know where you go.

Does she golf? If not then personally I wouldn't choose a place to get my golf-in. this is a honey moon where both of you are supposed to enjoy every moment together . What is she going to do when you're out for 4-5 hours? Don't get a place with a kitchen either, go to a resort where she doesn't have to lift a finger.

Who am I kidding, go to myrtle beach (play golf every day), rent an apt and have her grocery shop your favorite meals, write her a card and tell her "Welcome to marriage, Enjoy"

You're braver than I...

I wouldn't be heading down to Mexico any time soon, but that's just me. (for the record, I went to Cancun a few years back, and did the all-inclusive thing, and it WAS the bomb!!)

Actually did Disney World and a carbibean cruise for a honeymoon. About 30 honeymoon couples were on board.

They are relatively inexpensive and the cruise includes most of the meals. Look for ones that have lots of days in port. I think the windjammer type are more interesting.

I think your marriage will be pretty short if you play even one round during the honeymoon (without her). Living together is not a free pass to making the honeymoon less than special. Sacrifices need to be made. This should be an easy one.

I haven't been on a honeymoon just FYI but I loved the Outer Banks. My family had rented a small house about a block from a sweet beach. We were right next to the Wright Museum and close to any small beach convience store for food needs. The golf is top notch (though I didn't get to play any on account of a broken thumb ) It was great, such a laid back attitude. We did a ton of stuff there too: kayak, windsurfing, fishing, boating, probably the best vacation ever

San Diego does not interest you? You have incredible weather, food, beaches and some of the best golf courses in the country. Plus, if you're going to play golf on your honeymoon, you better find a few places where you can have dinner on the water, a great view and impeccable service. Otherwise....

Seriously, though, take a look. I went to Tahiti for mine but since you're on a budget look at SD.

We're going to the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso in Riviera Maya, Mexico. They have some great deals going on right now actually.

The resort is top notch with butlers and all inclusive service which includes free rounds of golf at their course when you stay a certain amount of nights.

Keep in mind that Sept is in hurricane season. I'd stay away from the gulf coast, just to be safe. I'd go to New Mexico (check out Grand Tamya Resort--good golf and spa)

Lots of fun things to do in NM. Golf, biking, gambling, hot air balloons.

    • Eh... what's he going to say? "Hey, I bought a new driver. It's 10 yards shorter and I hit twice as many OB now." Does he have any data to back up his claim? Or is he just going by what he saw at his fitting?  I've been using either Shotscope or Arccos since 2018 and if there's one thing I've learned is that it's the archer not the arrow. When I'm hitting the driver well, it goes far and straight. When I'm a mess, it's a mess.  If you were properly fit for a driver in the last (dare I say 10 years) 5 years for sure. I'd be surprised if you can get more than a couple of yards out of it by getting a new one. The COR rule has been 0.83 since 1998, with widespread and standardized enforcement since 2003. Obviously, the engineers can still optimize spin and launch and shaft flex and/or kick point. So there are things that can be done. But I believe the days of 10 or 15 yard gains are over... unless your current driver is unfit for you. (as @Typhoon92 mentions above.) If you were fit for your epic. You will likely see very little on course performance difference.  Having said that, I get a new driver every 2 or 3 years... Why? Because I like shiny things. So, if you want a new driver, get a new driver.
    • My suggestion to you is to take your driver with you and go to a golf store where you can hit the new Ping 440 AND your own driver side by side.  They you can decide.  Very simple test you can do for free. You have no idea ( and your friend probably doesn’t either) how old his old driver was, what loft it was compared to the new one, what shaft and flex he had in his old driver vs. the new one.
    • I might be inclined to try to figure out what is bothering them. Is it that their index is 12 but they're only getting 10 strokes? If that's the case then I think I would just point out that their handicap is being adjusted for the difference between par and the course rating. It's adjusting for this course being easier than typical for the par. Course rating being roughly what a scratch should shoot on a good day and par being the sum of the numbers on the card. The whole concoction (which Erik and Dave explained already) is simply a way to get everyone to play on an even playing field. So if everyone plays to their handicap, then they'll all have the same net score. The adjustments are there mainly for those instances where something more complicated is happening like playing different sets of tees, but still apply otherwise. It's also easiest to say "your handicap index is 12.4, which means you should shoot 10 over par to play to your handicap" rather than "your handicap index is 12.4, which means you should shoot 12.4 over the course rating after adjusting for the slope", which is a whole lot of gobbledygook to people who don't know how the system works.
