I currently carry two wedges (besides the 45 deg pw in my set), I have a vokey 52 and 60. I have room in my bag right now for an extra club.

I hit my 52 about 145 yds, and my 60 at about 110 yds. I have a pretty big drive, so with the shorter courses in my area (around 6700-6800 yds from tips) I'm wondering if I would be better suited to have a club that I hit around 80 yds with a full swing, or 130 yds.

If you were in my situation, would you bend the 60 to a 58 and get a 64 deg wedge, or get a 56 and bend the 60 to a 62?

What's in the Bag?

Holy chit Batman, a 145 yard 52* wedge? 110 yard 60...

But at any rate, I'd pick up a 56* wedge and have a nice club to fill in the gap, maybe for (gasp) 125 yarders.

damn dude, sounds like you hit the ball a freaking mile!!! i hit my 60º 75 yards TOPS! and you consider a shorter course 6800 yards??? thats long in my book. you're lucky. if i had your length, i think i would go with a 64º wedge

Personaly I keep 4* between wedges. So a 52, 56, 60 would be a great combo for me.

Do you hit your PW 195? lol jk, I can hit my 56 like 150 if i blade the ball :)

I agree totally. A set of 52, 56, and 60 is perfect to me. Covers lots of ground.

Ha! I've stopped wondering if i'm doing something wrong at this point and just go with it. I get really high ball flight and it checks up, so I guess I just hit them really long. I hit my PW 160 though....not quite 195.

the 4* thing is the rule I was thinking of going with, that just leaves me with a lot of half-club shots for under 100 yds that I need to keep working on.

    • Day 3:  I tried to hit a bucket at the range but an 80 year old man (he told me his age, showed me his knee replacement scars, told me all about his chronic low back pain, etc) couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mansplain to me every little thing I’m doing wrong.  Dude, it’s my third frickin day.  I know I need to twist my hips more, I know I need to keep my head/chest down and not pop up, I know I need to hit through the ball and follow through further, yada yada yada.  I know.  That’s exactly what I’m trying to work on.  How about you tell me or show me how to do those things instead of telling me to watch Iron Byron videos?  Rough day.
    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
