Hey guys, I golf all the time. Lately, it's been about 3 times a week. I'm only 14 and this is my first year of serious golfing. I was wondering if golf shoes are that important for me to have. Because I don't wear them. I don't own them. I wear my Adidas shoes that have barely any grip on the bottom of them.

I would venture to say that golf shoes are not unimportant.

Do your feet slip when swinging? I've seen people play anything from sandals to worker boots. I would always wear it since it lets my feet stay planted.

Yes, they are important. Even wearing golf shoes, when your foot slips it usually doesn't end up with a good result. Get a cheap pair.

If you're wearing some adidas running type shoes.... Check out the Adidas Power Band Sport. I just picked up a pair off e-bay for $40 total (last year's model) and they are great!

Hello Reid, When you are as young as you are, the importance of a pair of golf shoes can readily be dismissed--that is until you slip. Slipping may cause muscular pain or even damage to ligaments. Even when the weather is perfect, a solid anchor to the ground will allow the efficient transfer of energy into your swing. Don't go crazy. You don't need an expensive pair. Just comfortable.
Good luck.

It just depends if you tend to slip when you play. If you do, then yes. If you don't, then no. I watched my Dad play for the better part of 20 years and he only wore golf shoes about 10% of the time, and that was only in tournaments. He never had a bunch of lower body movement in his swing so he didn't twist his feet that much. I don't think I ever saw him slip.

You don't need to wear golf shoes to play good, but it can help. I would recommend getting some if you plan on playing a bunch, it will help in the long run since you will be able to make more movements with your lower body without worrying about slipping..

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I bought a pair of Foot Joy Green Goys, a very plain white model that looks like a clean sneaker, for $50 from Dicks. Thought they might suffer from poor quality due to being so cheap, however I can walk a round with no issues.

I wore golf shoes for years, but I have a weird bone structure on my heel that would blister EVERY SINGLE TIME. I got tired of it and went to just plain old running shoes I had. The result, no blisters, no negitive impact of golf game at all, and more comfort. Onrainy days or early dew, I would say that gof shoes would help though. I'm not wasting the money though.

One of my regular golfing buddies used to dismiss golf shoes until he was hitting a shot off a slight incline in the morning dew and slipped right down onto his hip and missed a week's worth of golf because of the bruise.
