i hope this whole quoting thing works...but i just had to show off my amazing prediction abilities

I still think you were wrong about the "not able to will yourself" thing. As I said, I've seen Tiger "will" himself to plenty... but he has to want to will himself to do something.

So yeah, you may be right that he'll miss the cut, but the second part, no.

As you all know things were treacherous at Winged Foot today. I was there and my god the rough is deep. Got there at 7:40 am and immediately went to watch Woods. The galleries for him this morning were nothing compared to Phils this afternoon. I know people work on Fridays so galleries on a Friday in the afternoon are bigger but my god Winged Foot loved Phil today and followed him everywhere.

Things I saw at Winged Foot were Rory Sabbatini kissing his wife after he walked off of a few greens. She wasnt wearing any annoying shirts either. Mickelson standing in the fairway at nine and some guys screaming out "Do you see all the ****ing women here Phil,?" then Phil telling the guy to quiet down, without a smile. His caddy was laughing though. Ive never been to a major championship before but I cant imagine what Sunday is going to be like, today there were amazing crowds there, I cant envision Sunday being bigger.

Oh, I love it! It wouldn't bother me if the winning scores were around even par every weekend on the PGA Tour. I am a big fan of the courses as much if not more than I am of the players. I love to see a great layout put the whippin on the world's best, especially with all the new technology craze!

.... I've wondered about this a few times, so I think you've made a very good point ...

I'm also a big fan of the "course" ... After playing 21 of the 41ish courses in Pinehurst, I like to see the players play a really tuff one .. and Winged Foot "seems" to be a killer, it's definately seems tougher than Pinehurst #2 - it could be the great equalizer ..... Muirfield is nice and it's pretty, but the big complaint last week was a few toothless rakes and some bunker adjustments .... I bet they wish they were still there ..l.o.l.. As far as Tiger is concerned .... when they interviewed him Tuesday night, he didn't look ready, he didn't talk ready, he didn't act "ready" --- and who can blame him.? I have 245 employee's and when my Mom passed away, I was reminded everyday by well wishers (all with very good intentions, mind you.!) .. but I can't even imagine what Tiger is going through being reminded by thousands in the gallery, hundreds of signs, thousands of emails, flowers dropped on your cars, 200 Nike commercials a day on TV and 75 sport announcers sticking microphones in your face and asking you the same question .. "so, what's it like to play without your Dad.?" whats in the bag.?? Balls: Dunlop Super Loco, Maxfli Noodles - or any "good" ball when it goes on sale ... Home course: Grey Hawk. travel course: Tobacco Road (Pinehurst).

ttee... that is a great point Woods was constantly reminded of his loss which I'm sure would make it hard to focus.

Well heading into day three Winged Foot seems like she isn't going to stop bringing the heat. The USGA moved the gallery back some that way players who hit bad drives aren't bailed out by the trampled section of the rough. Rough...there is no escaping it!

For someone who prepared so hard for the tournament it virtually came down to one hole. Put the ball in the fairway somehow and make a par....DO NOT PUT THE BALL IN THE ROUGH....God why on earth did he hit the driver there. Montgomerie must be kicking himself now, bogey and hes in a playoff.

And is it me or does Johnny Miller over analyze everything

Exactly, he'll end up catching crap for this for the rest of his career.

Welcome to annoucing with Johnny Miller and lucky us we'll get to hear more of him in '07

Even Phil has to be saying "What a stupid I am"

Phil gets absolutely no credit for being a "mad scientist" or being "the most prepared" or "dissecting" anything or being super-smart or having a "braintrust."

He lost all chance of that. All chance. Phil had the best luck throughout the week, day to day. The only bad breaks he got were the plugged bunker lies. His lies in the rough - or in the gallery-trampled areas - were the best. He didn't deserve to win, not by a long shot. Luck kept him in it. One of the world's best golfers should be able to make a bogey on a par 4 to get into a playoff.

Can someone answer this question for me. Phils 2nd shot on 18. What happened. Am I wrong or did they not explain what happened. I think his shot hit a tree and came back but i have no clue. Im working now and am not near a television. Alls I heard one of the announcers say is that ball is heading backwards towards him.

Also Im sure most of you would agree with me, this will go down as one of the worst implosions in a major ever. Also do you think Phil knew on 18 that if he made par he would win the tournament?

Furyk blew it but Monty REALLY blew it--aside from Mickelson of course. Monty was sitting in the middle of the fairway on 18 at 4 over. He stood there for 10 minutes or something with one club in his hands and then at the last second he changed clubs and just went up and swung. Total mental breakdown.

Furyk had a tourrette's moment over a 4 foot put. Total mental breakdown.

Phil. Well, whatever. I still love him but he gave the tourney away.

Ogilvie is the only guy who deserves credit. He held it together at the finish, although he probably perceived a lot less pressure than was actually on him at the time. My hats off to him.

    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
    • What has gone downhill? Have you been practicing properly, filming your swing, working on exactly what he suggested without straying? My thoughts are that your results/outcomes from a lesson a year ago probably aren't all that relevant anymore.  And carry distance is far more important than total distance. Total distance is going to vary significantly based on course conditions.
    • One thing that has helped me tremendously is to spray the club face with foot powder when I am on the range. Seeing ball impact can be quite helpful if you are hitting shots all over the place. It's not the cure all, but a good little thing to do on the range. The other thing, and I will forget to do it, is the pre-shot routine. Find me a spot a foot or so from the ball in-line with my target, take my stance, take the swing.  Sometimes you take a BS practice swing with no thought. Make it deliberate.  As far as swing thoughts. I have 3 check-points. First is set-up, Second is my take away, Third is my downswing. I cant explain what I think I just know in my mind. Its a feeling that I have that feels right and experience has shown that if I follow those 3 thoughts more than likely the outcome will be what I was looking for. Now, thinking about the feeling and executing it properly is a whole different thing, that;s why I practice, I used to be over a 20 handicap, I am down to a 15.1 in about a year.  I feel like its good progress. the goal is a 10 by the end of the year. If I make it great, if not, hey at least Im not in Gaza. LOL
    • I usually shy away from giving advice on a golf swing since so many here are more qualified than I am.  You might try the following:  Create a "MySwing" page on this  site and you will get a lot of good advice Filter all of the advice and try to only focus on one or two things at a time.  Unfortunately it is very hard, if not impossible, to constantly change different things at the same time.  Figure out what is the most important thing to work on at this moment in your golf swing and focus on that until you have it engrained, then move on the the next change. Remember, we all have both good & bad shots.  The difference between the pros and us hackers is the ratio of good to bad shots. Understand that a bad swing can occasionally look like a great result and a good swing can occasionally have a bad result.  The key is to focus on one thing and work to get that as consistent as possible.  Ideally that will gradually increase the number of good shots vs bad shots.    Do not forget to have fun.
    • So close, that is frustrating.
