I'm from Seattle and though im in NC now, I lived there until 01. My wife and I drove down for a 3 day weekend on a whim after I saw something on the Golf Channel about BD. I've been to Pebble, been to a few Robert Trent Jones layouts, been to #2 etc. Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes are by far the nicest courses I have ever played but more importantly, the nicest courses I have ever seen t.v. or otherwise. I Played em both on consecutive days and my god, what an experience, its like nothing else most of you have ever done in golf im sure, just ridiculous nice. Old school links style but w/ Augusta like detail. If you can make the trip, its worth it and I hear they added another (wooded 18) Seriously though, every article or post whatever always says "oh it’s great here or there" and "it's worth it" Well I’m just a random dude
so this is face value but in terms of being public and price and scenery and the total overall experience, BEST COURSES EVER!!!! Make a vacation this year for this place, forget anything else on the west coast. 17 mile drive would be nice but half that joint is private and the other half is WAY overpriced.

I just picked up the book Dream Golf: The Making of Bandon Dunes for $12 at Half Price books. I'll give a short review when I finish it.

I think Banyon was the guy on Seinfeld who Jerry lost a bet to and had to take him out to dinner.

nice read, thank you

like the idea of " a links-style course uses native plants and leaves a smaller environmental footprint". something that is being lost with most courses being an artificial imposition on the ecosystem.

this article as well points out the significant impact that hippies like myself are having on the evolution of the game. "Mike Keiser addressed the crew - a rough, ragged bunch of out-of-work loggers, former cranberry pickers, and hard-luck farmers, with a few Oregon hippies thrown in for good measure."

"the hippie (meek) shall inherit the earth" jesus christ

Yeah, "it's the best Jerry"... Made me think about "Aja" by Steely Dan, Chinese music under Banyan trees...

If you haven't read Dream Golf, do yourself a favor and get the book... Fantastic read about the creation of Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, and Bandon Trails... After reading the book you will be ready to pack your bags and go... Very cool stuff

Genius... "I didn't tell you to order the soup, you could have ordered anything you wanted."

Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes seem to get all the pub, has anyone played Bandon Trails? Is it a good idea to wait until the newest course is built so you can play all four courses?

    • Day 51 (yesterday was 50, not 59 -- that was a typo).  I didn't have a ton of time today.  I hit a dozen balls with a 6-iron in my practice room.   Amazingly, after this I did the ShotScope analysis of yesterday's round;  my approach play was at the 5 hcp level.  That's pretty darn good, but unfortunately for my score, some of that came from hitting a few good recovery shots.  But I also hit some really good approach shots that weren't from trouble!

    • Day 295 6-26 Low point control with towel again. Getting better but not swinging fast enough tonight.
    • Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.
    • I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.
