I don't know what everyone else thinks but I can't stand Chris Berman as a golf announcer. He just doesn't seem to fit. He should stay with baseball and his "back back back gone" lines.

does he do his "trademark" thingy and on a long put, rolling right towards the hole yells out "... IT COULD... GO... ALL... THE... WAY !!!! " ?
He's more annoying than tight underwear in a disco club

I guess he has a raspy harsh voice. He is ths one always making random comments and quoting people who have nothing to do w/ golf.

Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but man, is Berman bad. He's a 36 handicap announcer. The guy has no feeling for the drama of the game. He trivializes the event by making silly puns, over and over and over again. If I have to hear about the "National Parks" bunker again, I'm switching to XM radio.

Yeah, I can't stand that guy. What a relief it is when Johnny Miller comes on!

Announcer Dream Team:
Faldo, Miller, and Azinger in the booth
Feherty on the course

Andy North sucks as an on course announcer and Dottie Pepper isn't much better.

Is it just me or are the production values of the ESPN broadcast less than what we've come to expect?

What does that mean? Can I get a shout out on the Podcast for creating the topic? (I just listened to the Podcast good stuff. Cool to know I was part of the cast in some sort of way.

) We can all sleep easy now that NBC has taken over the coverage...Berman is dead to us.

The announcers on XM are pretty fair. They don't make a lot of off-hand comments like the television announcers. They just report whatever is happening. I listen to my XM a lot during history class... :)

I don't have a problem with how Berman's voice sounds, but most of his commentary prove he doesn't have a clue about golf. As I pointed out on the podcast, he must have said "WOW!" 3 or for times for the most mediocre shots. Some guy chips the ball to 12 feet and he says, "Wow!" Uhhhh... riiiiight.

As a former History Major in undergrad and graduate school, i must protest this last comment. History is the most important class you will take in school. Its much better to listen to xm during math or French. Afterall, the only math you really need is to add 18 single didget (hopefully) numbers together. As for French, all you need to no is "On Capituler!!"

Berman belongs in team sports where he can make assinine cracks to couch potatos with their hats on backwards. Jeff "Seattle" Sluman , Gary "Rum and" Koch, Kenneth "Staten Island" Freeie ...GIVE ME A FREAKIN' BREAK!!!

And then to make matters worse we have to listen to Bob Costas try to turn every thing into an Olympic Games heartwarming perspective because it's in his network contract.

Golf should be golf. It is a sport for purists who love the game more than the beer commercials or song girls. I can't wait until the golf channel can compete and take the big tournaments away from these dolts.

Bury me with a golf glove in my pocket - just in case!

I wish we didn't have to hear Johnny Miller talking about how good he was instead of talking about the golf being played. 1 more comment about how he was better than Nicholas or anyone last time they played Winged Foot and I was gonna find him on the course and kill him. I believe he should be thrown out of the booth.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
