How many rounds of golf should be achieved with a new glove. I just started wearing one again and had a problem today. Shot a real good front, my glove started getting slippery and ended up +12 on the back nine. Driver slipping out of my hands on the tee. Anyway this is probably my tenth round with the same glove. Its cabretta leather, not synthetic.

I can go many rounds maybe 30 with a high end glove, practice now is different. The sweat can rot them out, especially if you don't rinse them out. Some people actully use dish soap or woolite. If it is hot I have to change gloves 2 or 3 times a round.

There's nothing more annoying to me than someone with a disgusting glove. It's just counter productive anyways, considering a sweaty, crusty glove is just going to make your hand slip. Bottom line: get new gloves. Often. Please.

I rotate 3 pair of gloves during a round to keep them "alive" longer. I'd say I go through 10 pair of gloves in a season ( +/- 80 rounds ).

I stopped wearing gloves in the summer because it's so hot here that I sweat too much and go through gloves too fast. I do use them in the winter and on humid days though.

I always use a new glove for tournament rounds, I'll usually break that glove in with one small practice session just to get it stretched a little. After that it gets used for practice sessions and rounds.

My hands sweat too much so I have to wear a glove. I usually rotate between two gloves during a round, and have a retired glove I use on the range. I usually hang up the glove that gets too damp on the corner pole of the cart or on my bag to dry out and keep switching that way.I can usually get 15-25 rounds out of a glove before it starts getting to the point to moving to DR duty.

I bought my first glove about 2 months ago. It is still in a relatively usable state after 4 rounds of 18 holes and about 1000 balls on the driving range. It's cabretta leather :p.

In the summer especially I will play with 3 or 4 gloves per round. As my hands sweat up a glove, I lose my grip and the whole purpose of wearing a glove is gone. I switch gloves every so often and let the used gloves hang off my cart to dry up a but.

As far as a new glove. If I was to play with the same glove, I would venture to guess I can get 10 rounds out of it however I am not sure. Since learnign how to grip a club, my gloves last MUCH longer.

BTW: I fell in love with using footjoy SofJoys (the glove that logo on the velcro overlap is a ball mark) I hate the pins as ball markers and change in pocket annoys me.

I got engaged on November 19, 2005 to a lady who had bought me a Taylormade R580XD, Adams Irons a Calloway "MLB" bag, a Calloway Golf jacket (different holidays / birthdays / etc) and tells me I should "go play with the guys."

I also suffer from sweaty hands so I use as many as 3 pairs of gloves over a round. I also spend a lot of time at the driving range. My other glove issue is I have not found one I really, really like yet so I have maybe 6 different ones right now that I basically rotate through.

But if I hit maybe 4 buckets a week (300 to 350) balls, and played twice a week then I could probably get 3 or 4 weeks out of a glove before it got to be too abused to stay in service. Maybe a bit less.

In reality I hit about 800 balls a week while averaging less than 1 1/2 rounds so I get maybe 2 weeks out of a glove if I take care of it. I am also using cheaper gloves (I would pay more if I found one I really liked) such as some Etonics from Dicks (the only gloves they sell that I kind of like, although they seem to stretch out easily), Callaway Warbirds (decent grip when perfectly dry) and the surprise of the bunch - Tommy Armour's from Sam’s Club which work pretty good.

I have also tried MasterGrip.com which gives you 2 gloves for the price of one and offer different colors. Their problem is quality control. One glove fit like... well, you know. And the other in supposedly the same size was way to big. TaylorMade gloves fit nice but I never had any confidence in the grippage. Cheaper FootJoys don't last. And the only other gloves I have tried this year are some Wilson winter gloves which provided a solid grip, good fit and incredible warmth. Had they lasted through the entire bucket at the driving range they would have been ok.

Golf is expensive enough aside from actually playing and practicing. Balls, tees, spikes, new grips, etc. all add up so I think a lot of people try to get more and more out of their glove. But there is nothing worse than seeing someone pull out a nasty, cracked, black and gray rag out of their bag and put it on their hand. Treat your gloves right people! Take care of them and don't be afraid to retire them when their time comes.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
