Let me know if Iam crazy my wife thinks so.Last week we had our Sat. & Sun. 2-man best ball tourney.I enjoy playing in anything club related we know everybody and it is usually a great time. This year I've been playing in a mens league just to play along with this guy(sandbagger) and see how he plays. The league 8th wk. 9 hole play with full hadicap this guys a 15.7 he gets 8 strokes an his worst score so far in this league is 44 with his average score for the league is 41.So on too last weekends 2man best ball he and his partner shot 12 under on Sat. and 9 under on Sun. oh did I forget to mention he is the manager of the golf course.I'VE HAD ENOUGH I went to the mens golf committee meeting and said this has to stop he needs his handicap adjusted. He has either won or come in top 4 in every event in the last 2yrs.We have his tourney scores why aren't they posted and they posted them using handicap calculator he will now be a 5.8.He said that wasn't fair because some of the tourney holes he picked up and didn't finish and wrote down 1 higher than his partner. The pres. said then your score card would be incorrect the sandbagger said FU AND LEFT. JOB WELL DOWN

I don't understand. If his average during the league is 41, why is his handicap still almost 16? Does he go out and play other times and post bad scores?

He doesn't post scores because our league is a 9 hole league and our course is 18 holes

IME, the 12-18 hcpr is the most dangerous player in a handicap event. Those are the players that have enough game to get on a streak of pars. Then they'll have a couple of blow up holes that inflate their index.

In your case, it sounds like this guy was intentionally sandbagging and you've busted his game by posting his tourney scores.

Your posts are really hard to read and understand, but the USGA handicap system has procedures to combat "sandbagging" including:

- peer review
- adjusting handicap based on exceptional tournament scores
- adjusting handicap based on a player who doesn't observe the spirit of the system - not turning in all scores, posting wrong scores or manipulating scores to acheive a higher index, etc.

Some of the tools at your disposal appear in section 11 of the USGA
Handicap Manual

He doesn't post scores because our league is a 9 hole league and our course is 18 holes

What does that have to do with anything, all he has to do is combine two 9 hole scores and enter it in. Actually just enter in the 9 hole scores and gHIN combines them for you. The guy is a bagger no doubt.

It amazes me that so many people do this kind of stuff. All it tells me is that they are chicken and don't want to have to play off their skill alone. If winning is that important, get better at the game.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I can't stand it!!!!! There are a few 2 man and 3 man best ball tournies we enter at thic local club. EVERYBODY sandbags the first day to get in a lower flight the next day. It drives me nuts!! They turn a fun scramble into a freaking guessing game. I told a team out there 2 years ago, "Why don't you guys man up and play in the correct flight? If you guys don't have the skill to beat the guys at that level, then your handicap is obviously bull****.!" We argued for about 30 minutes over this. I played with a couple of friends that are higher handicap players just for fun, so I knew what kind of scores these guys could shoot. The first day of the tourny, they come out and have this really high score, which one of them could have easily shot by himself, and they end up in the 2nd flight!! THe 2nd flight!! These guys could have easily been top 5 in the championship flight. But, the good news was the 2nd day, they got beat in the 2nd flight because they shot better than they were allowed. I just drove by laughing at the guys. They didn't play last year and I will be gone this weekend when the tourny is but I am curious to see if they try that again.

But it happens everywhere!!

you need to chill out and just have fun. life is too short to get so pissed off.

This is true...but my competitive juices get flowing. I could care less myself, but that screws many high handicappers out of any chance at winning anything, you know? And some of those guys are friends.

I just don't understand it...I would want to play in the championship flight to test myself....but to each his own

We have a big 2-man best ball tourney here. People come from all over to play it. Two years ago, there was a team in the second flight that were obviously sandbagging. They were from out of town, and some friends of mine were playing in their group and noticed how well they played for second flighters. Talked to the pro about it, and he called the club they came from to verify handicaps. The handicaps were verified, so they played on. The second day, one guy by himself shoot 5 under on the front side, then threw off the back nine. The guys were paid for the day, but told to never come back. The pro that verified their handicaps was turned in to the PGA of America and he was fried from his job and thrown out of the PGA... never to be a head pro again. Turns out those guys were mini-tour players.

Finally, someone got in trouble for bagging. I'm glad it was the head pro that was helping those guys because he should have known better.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

That is AWESOME! He definitely got what he deserves, too bad it too so long! I absolutely love how he got himself into trouble by claiming he was turning in a fraudulent scorecard, and the president called him on it! Priceless! The only thing that would have been better is for the committee to ask for all the prizes back due to his admission of cheating.

This is why I practiced very hard to get to the championship flight. My handicap for 5-6 yrs was a 4.Now I have 3 kids 8,2n1 and no time to play or practice.

being a 22 hi and a 25 at the time of my first scramble..I was accused of sandbagging!

Our group was a low flight 3some playing against 4somes. So we had an extra shot per man every 3rd hole. the highest HI flight was the largest and had the best prizes. We scored so low we beat the mid -HI flight. We had a (woman)15 HI another 15HI and me a 25. we shot 2 under on a hard course. I won the fields Long Drive contest with a 285 drive casting further doubt. I just happen to hit long and play decent irons that day on a consistent basis. but the OP issue is disgusting. I want to boast a 9 HI and show it every round! Wife doesnt let me play.

Boom.

I have yet to see an 18 hcpr that gets all bogeys and zero pars. Get on a streak and yes, par or better is a real possibility.

I believe this because last time out I shot 34 (-2) and I am about a 12. It was a pretty incredible round for me. I figured out something with my swing.

    • A list with both Airborne and Goonies.......   I think a list of 5 is very difficult Shawshank is definitely on the list Boogie Nights (This is a great film, but Really tough to omit PT Andersons other work . so I would need to include Magnolia and There Will Be Blood. And if we are being honest Daniel Day Lewis had a hell of a performance in There Will Be Blood. Actually if you watch There Will Be Blood and then Phantom Thread, you get to see DDL perform at 2 very different characters at opposite ends of the spectrum) No Country for Old Men Godfather (GodFather 2 may be the better film) Good Fellas (I might argue that Casino deserves as much love as Good Fellas, it is simply a great gangster film) Usual Suspects Saving Private Ryan (but Spielberg has made so many great movies) L.A. Confidential Almost Famous (This is one of my personal Favorite films, ever!) Modern Times (an almost perfect silent film made as the talkies were taking over)
