It's for the U.S. Open...Check it out:
http://www.golfsmith.com/ps/display_...um=usopen&ln;=N
Eligible Drivers:
-Big Bertha Diablo
-FT-9
-FT-iQ

It's pretty much the same offer as Sergio winning the masters except we as the consumer have much better odds ...Hopefully Golfsmith does this for the other 2 majors as well...I haven't looked into it too deeply but it says "No Purchase Necessary" as well...

I'll be looking for the No Purchase Necessary form and probably mailing it in here...

Edit: From the official rules,

Section 4-b:
Participate by Mail : To participate without making a purchase, visit any Golfsmith retail location, and ask a caddy for an Official Entry Form. Complete the Official Entry Form and mail it to the address indicated on the Form (Go Phil and Rocco Promotion; Dept 11 ; PO Box 6168 ; Douglas , AZ 85655-6168 ). Submissions must be postmarked by June 17, 2009 . Submissions will not be acknowledged or returned and proof of sending will not be deemed proof that the submission was received. No copies of an Official Entry Form will be accepted .

Section 5-b:
If you Participated by Mail : If Phil Mickelson or Rocco Mediate win the 2009 US Open, the Sponsor will mail you the Promotional Item you indicated on the Official Entry Form within 12-16 weeks after the conclusion of the US Open. No cash or other substitution is allowed except by the Sponsor who may substitute a Promotional Item with another item of equal or greater value if the Promotional Item you designated becomes unavailable, as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion.

How can it advertise no purchase necessary if the first requirement is to purchase one of the listed Callaway drivers.

That would really surpirse me if they can lee people fill out a form and send them a driver if one of the two players win. They normally do these things to increase sales but it makes no since becuase there is no risk for the consumer.

I' pretty sure it is illegal to require purchase of an item to be able to enter a sweepstakes. Think of all the super bowl tickets Budweiser has given away, and all the things like that. They ALWAYS say no purchase necessary. They can however make it a royal pain in the backside to enter without purchasing.

Every year Sporty's pilot shop near Cincinatti gives away a new airplane. When you order something your name goes in the hat (simming pool actually). I sent in a no purchase entry form almost every day that year. Would have been awesome to win, but I thin I would have had to sell it to pay the taxes.

Ben Hogan is my swing coach.

I believe the laws are such that they cannot make purchase mandatory to enter and in a case like this you can enter through a form and if you win they will send you a certificate to allow you to get your prize. Other businesses who run promotions like this have the same thing set up. Good example is when McDonalds runs its Monopoly game. They are required to offer game pieces to those that do not choose to buy their product (or "buying" a chance to win which would be gambling). The official rules give and address that you have to right to request a piece and if you send a self addressed stamped envelope and they will send you one of the little pieces that normally would be stuck to the drink cup or french fry box.

With the TaylorMade promotion you could download the form, print it and mail it....does anyone know if that is possible with this contest? I don't have a Golfsmith close.

Actually you'd be better off taking 10% of the price and betting it outright on the player to win. The payout would be enough to buy the club and have some left over.

Pretty safe bet for Callaway, IMO. Rocco - Really could lightning strike twice??, not so much. Phil - Lets just hope he makes the cut...

So is there a downloadable form? I bet they want you to come in and get the form, that way they can possibly get a sale out of you.

Nope, in store only. I bet they drag you to the callaway rack and tape you up a few drivers before they even think about getting you a form.

Unlike the Sergio promotion, I think Phil actually has a pretty good shot at winning. The only people who I think have a better shot are Tiger and Cabrera, and maybe Kenny Perry and Zach Johnson (nobody talks about him but I think he has major game). Of course anyone can win but if you're going to bet Phil is a good one to bet on.

His wife's cancer could be extra motivation or something that holds him back, but there is no way to know. I know I'll be picking up a form next time I'm at golfsmith.

Stopped by a golfsmith while I was in Dallas this weekend and grabbed a few of the forms.

One interesting thing of note: The forms say "Ernie Els and Rocco Mediate", while the promotion now is for Phil and Rocco.

I'm sure this had to do with everyone thinking that Phil wouldn't play in the open, but with this little caveat in mind, I'm not sure how exactly this will go down.

Who should I be pulling for? Ernie? Phil? Or the one person who is listed on the promotion and the entry request: Rocco?

I dunno.

Tidbit: Be sure and ask a manager about the form, one of the guys I asked had no clue about it until I asked him to go talk to his manager.
