how much do golf shoes matter

how much of a difference will $50 nike golf shoes be than $135 footjoys? Will they have any impact on my swing whatsoever?

The main purpose of golf shoes are the following

1) lateral stability when you make the turn
2) comfortable to walk 18 holes
3) water proof for morning rounds
4) traction so you don't slip down the hill.
5) durability

so to compare the two different shoes the most important purpose of your golf shoes is the stability during your golf swing.

The bottom of the shoes will all be about the same. Some maybe are a little better than others, but for the most part they all do a good job. The big difference is in the comfort. You don't want to skimp on comfort, especially if you walk. Anytime you play golf you spend a long time on your feet either standing or walking, you don't want to get to the 13th hole and be uncomfortable. Get the most comfortable shoes you can afford, they will have very little effect on the swing.

The main part of golf shoes are the spikes. But like any shoes, the most important thing is that they fit and feel good, so either the nike or the footjoy, whichever fits your foot. As long as you replace the spikes every so often, the shoes will serve their purpose, whether they cost $40 or $400.

Couldn't agree more. I have always said you can get by with less expensive clubs and balls but highly recommend buying the best shoes (and raingear, for that matter) as you can afford. Better to be playing Titleist Hot Rocks (DT series or whatever 2 piece ball out there) and having comfortable shoes than hitting a ProV1 with a blister.

Well, I agree, but you can get blisters on any shoes if:

A. the shoes don't fit your correctly (too tight or too loose) B. not broken in I've had experiences with both, cheap or expensive, in golf shoes.

I had a pair of $160 nike shoes,i found them very uncomfortable and plus with any nike shoe if you lose a stud the stud holder gets damaged and you can't put a stud in,its made of to soft of material.Ask any golfer who wears nike's to look at his shoe sole and he will be missing at least 2 studs.About three weeks ago i came in from a round with a sore right side of the sole of my right foot,that's it i said,threw the shoes in the garbage and went out and bought a pair of footjoys for $139,the difference is unbelievable,its like walking on air.Just pure comfort.Sorry about the rant,but nike shoes suck.

I say the cost doesnt matter as much as the way they fit your foot. I like to buy shoes without looking at the pricetag. I find the ones that feel the best and buy those, whatever the price. Even if I pick the most expensive, they are not that expensive compared to what the rest of the equipment costs.

I totally understand the rant from your experience, but what kind of maneuvers were you doing to lose a spike? I have Nikes (admittedly not the best shoes I could have bought, but my feet have several miles logged with much more than a golf bag hanging off of me) and I need a dang wrench to even think about getting the spikes off. They're a year old, and I've not lost a spike. At worst, I have a tough time getting them off even with a spike tool. The rest of the shoe is also not going to fall apart any time soon. I would easily buy them again.

I couldn't agree more! I use the Footjoy Reel-Fit shoes that lace up like ski bindings because once I "crank them on" they won't come loose....not even a little bit....for the rest of the day. Since the soles of most quality shoes are going to be good, the key is finding the right "uppers" that treat your feet right.

The great thing about shoes is that styles change often. Usually, you can find last years style for cheap. I love my $60 Adidas model.

actually shoes matter A LOT. Footjoy Classics...the old ones from 2 years ago.....give you incredible stability. When you swing, your feet arent moving at all. Stability is the biggest thing for me. sure theyre all waterproof and comfortable but as long as they are stable and i dont move, thats where i chime in and buy.

Once you get past the $20 range, most of the shoes are going to be similar. I have zero complaints about the $50 Adidas I've been wearing.

I have had several pairs of Nike's. They always fit good and I have never had a problem with a spike coming out like another member said. My first pair of shoes were Footjoy's and I didn't like the way they felt. It is a personal preference just like your clubs or the ball you use. Try a few on and see which one feels the best.

I played with a pair of Nike SP-3's last year and found them extremely uncomfortable. When I went to visit my parents in Texas last December, I bought a pair of Footjoy Contours to play with while I was there and brought back with me, and I love them. Much more comfortable. Night and day.

I agree that a proper fit is the most important thing since I just recovered from a blister on the back of my heal from a pair of shoes that I inherited that were a half size too big. Live and learn I guess.
