Not an easy course if you don't hit fairly straight. Lots of places to lose balls.

Greens: generally among the best in the valley. When I was a 12 handicap I avoided it because I hit too many balls into bad places. Now at a 7 I enjoy the course. Good prices if you get the "resident rate". I think they still offer the resident rate to everyone on Wed. Something like $31 with a ride. If you are a 28 handicap take a dozen extra balls. SubPar

Yea I am playing to an 11 right now, and I shot probably a 48 on the front 9. Lost balls, OB, creek beds oh my!

The 108 slope rating is really deceiving. Yes it is short, but tight. I love DeBell though, its a really great track, feels like your golfing on the top of the world. I would try hansem dam if you are trying to hone your skills, I have heard its wide open.

Hansen Dam is somewhat open, but has a few tight holes, and a few others that dogleg. All in all, not a bad course. Also has a few great holes that bowl. The course also has some elevation changes. If you're looking for a wide open, relatively easy course, when I was a 28 - and anytime I'm coming back from a layaway - I enjoyed going to Woodley Lakes. 70.5/117/6500 from the white tees, but you can safely hit driver on just about every par-4, and most of the par-5s (all if you're a short driver).

So we played rustic canyon today and it was pretty awesome. What a great course. I had forgotten what real greens were like.

It was a good time even though I fell apart on the back. We were a good threesome in terms of temperament. It helps to play with people who don't have wild displays of emotion, up or down. The 4th guy they put with us was a little distracting with all the self loathing and club slamming.

Ben has a pretty awesome swing. I envy guys who can park the car and walk straight to the tee and knock off a couple of birdies. Lets do it again soon. Maybe a few others will join us. SubPar

I hope to join you. If you hadn't been going on my birthday, I would have made a real attempt to join you - but I had plans with my sister for not much after your start time.

I think I'm even in temperament. I certainly don't throw clubs.

Yeah, that was fun. Really nice day. I got off to a great start. I wish I could have kept my putter working (and my head together) the whole time. Oh well. I was hitting the ball great.

I tried to block out the attitude of our fourth. I used to be like that so I can understand. Now that I see it from the other side I just let it slide, think about something else. Its a fun exersize in focus and concentration.

We'll try again soon!

Just got back from Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks. The pictures on the site really make this place look alot better than it really is. The greens are slightly above average, the fairways a bit better than encino/balboa. However its got some of the most mickey mouse designed holes I've ever seen. The back nine will likely have you wanting to throw your club. There are trees/mulch in the middle of the fairway. Bring your mulch game if you miss some of the greens. The front nine however is great, some amazing holes to be had on the front.

I think the next place I want to play is Tierra Rejada GC in Moorpark next weekend. I know this is far in advance but just throwing that out there. If anyone has some better options let me know. I would be open to play rustic again as well.

I have a tournament at Sterling Hills the 12th. If it is possible to get a tee time there Saturday the 11th, I wouldn't mind a practice round.

I would be up for Tierra Rejada after that weekend. SubPar

    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
    • What has gone downhill? Have you been practicing properly, filming your swing, working on exactly what he suggested without straying? My thoughts are that your results/outcomes from a lesson a year ago probably aren't all that relevant anymore.  And carry distance is far more important than total distance. Total distance is going to vary significantly based on course conditions.
    • One thing that has helped me tremendously is to spray the club face with foot powder when I am on the range. Seeing ball impact can be quite helpful if you are hitting shots all over the place. It's not the cure all, but a good little thing to do on the range. The other thing, and I will forget to do it, is the pre-shot routine. Find me a spot a foot or so from the ball in-line with my target, take my stance, take the swing.  Sometimes you take a BS practice swing with no thought. Make it deliberate.  As far as swing thoughts. I have 3 check-points. First is set-up, Second is my take away, Third is my downswing. I cant explain what I think I just know in my mind. Its a feeling that I have that feels right and experience has shown that if I follow those 3 thoughts more than likely the outcome will be what I was looking for. Now, thinking about the feeling and executing it properly is a whole different thing, that;s why I practice, I used to be over a 20 handicap, I am down to a 15.1 in about a year.  I feel like its good progress. the goal is a 10 by the end of the year. If I make it great, if not, hey at least Im not in Gaza. LOL
