My recommendation is the 2 courses in Industry Hills (Ike & Babe). Its a first class resort, and both courses are challenging and fun. Ike is a players course, whereas Babe is links-style. Call and say you're interested in becoming a club member and they'll give you the member rate.

In my Grom Stand bag:

Driver: Ping G20, 8.5 Tour Stiff
Wood/Hybrid: G20 3W, Raylor 19*, 22*
Irons: R9 5I - SW, TM CGB LW

Putter: Scotty Cameron Kombi-Mid

Favorites: Old Ranch (Seal Beach), Ike/Babe (Industry Hills), Skylinks (Long Beach), Desert Willow (Palm Desert)

@ ejimsmith: Thanks for your suggestions, I visited the website of Ike and Babe and it seems to be nice courses. I will play there.

@ Ben: Tks for your warning, I will check those course and prepare for some games there.

Rustic Canyon in Moorpark

These are all nice. Angeles National is nice and well kept, but I don't think it's a particularly good deal if cost is an issue. I also thought it was great in terms of condition, but not so interesting design-wise. Rustic Canyon, on the other hand, is an absolute steal, particularly for twilight.

I think the Lost Canyons course (Sky anyway, haven't done Shadow) is a nice one, if you're into interesting and unique (and perhaps frustrating) design.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

If you're recommending Ojai, I think Soule Park is a great choice as well:

I just moved out here and I've only made it out to Los Verdes and Rec 18, anyone have any other recommendations ?

In Long Beach, I like Skylinks. Rancho Park and Wilson are nice public courses as well. All three can be long rounds though on the weekend.

I live in El Segundo, CA which is by LAX and I typically play The Lakes which is just a 9-hole exec. I do enjoy Harbor Park in Wilmington as it is a regulation 9-hole with a 512 yard par 5 and Penmar in Santa Monica is a great par4 9-hole. The only 18 hole course I have played was Chester Washington which was a blast and a challenge.

i live right next to knollwood and i still have not played it. seems that it always has tournaments going on the days i can play. I hit the range there all the time but it drives me nuts how BAD thier range balls are. Never seen such horrible range balls, they are bald, cracked, gashed, you might get 10 decent balls to hit out of 100. i hit knuckle balls with my irons lol

I live near Knollwood and play it often. Since cirem22 origional post, the range has been redone. Artificial turf (mostly dirt and sand) has been replaced with natural grass and new yellow range balls have been put into play.

Sticks in My Bag:
Titleist 909 D2 9.5 w/ Stiff UST V2 76 gram, Titleist 909F2 15.5 w/ Stiff UST V2 76 grams, Titleist 909H w/ Stiff UST V2 89 grams, Titleist AP2 3-9 irons w/ Project X 5.5, Titleist Spin Mill 56.11 Sand Wedge, Titleist Spin Mill 60.7 Lob Wedge, Scotty Cameron Newport 2, Pro V1...

When did the natural grass go in? I was there back on Masters Thursday, but I don't remember this. But I'll have to go back and see this!

I can't recall for sure when the grass was put in but it wasn't that long ago. New matts (on the bottom level) and ball machines too. P.S. old range cards don't work on the new machines but the guys in the pro shop are pretty good about giving you credit for them. They use a refillable magnetic key system now. For a single bucket, they give you a code number that you enter into the machine. Big improvement after a lot of complaints, but it's still not the same as hitting off real grass.

    • 3 rainouts in a row….that’s SAD Sorry, I’m in MI or I would take you up on a round.
    • Day 3:  I tried to hit a bucket at the range but an 80 year old man (he told me his age, showed me his knee replacement scars, told me all about his chronic low back pain, etc) couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mansplain to me every little thing I’m doing wrong.  Dude, it’s my third frickin day.  I know I need to twist my hips more, I know I need to keep my head/chest down and not pop up, I know I need to hit through the ball and follow through further, yada yada yada.  I know.  That’s exactly what I’m trying to work on.  How about you tell me or show me how to do those things instead of telling me to watch Iron Byron videos?  Rough day.
    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
