While out playing at my home course today, I found a club head that apparently had been broken off and left in disgust. It's a 10.5* driver, and the shaft was broken at the hosel; a piece of the shaft remains inside the hosel.

My question: I've been looking for a good driver to replace my old, awful, dented one. This club head doesn't appear to be damaged on its own, simply broken off of the shaft. I'm not exactly what one would call "rich..." so, is it possible (and a decent idea) to get this head attached to a new shaft? And if so, is it financially worth the effort?

Depends on the club.

What brand? What model?

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Looks like a TourCraft Power Plus Titanium Matrix. The idea of it is more that I could get a new driver for cheap, rather than what kind of driver I could get for cheap.

If you do it yourself, you can find a cheap pullout shaft for less than $20. Maybe your dented driver shaft will fit? If that's the case, your materials will be less than $5.

If you have a torch and some epoxy, it should take even a novice about 20 minutes. There are how to videos on Youtube. Just make sure the shaft diameter matches the clubhead, and get a replacement ferrule. Good idea? Depends. But there's no reason why it can't be done.

Best have some kind of puller. You don't twist on graphite shafts when removing them, they can be ruined. You'll probably have to drill out the shat of the one that's broke off.

Go drop $50 on a driver, there's plenty on ebay in that price range since you don't care about what name is on it. Hell I've got a couple in the $50-$75 range I'll sell ya with topline shafts.

Yeah, it seems like more trouble than it's worth, especially since, as you pointed out, I can snag one on eBay for cheap. I checked up on the driver, and apparently it's one in a really, really cheap set. Not particularly any better than what I have now.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

between ebay and component club sellers closeout bin, you have plenty of choices for a $50 driver.

I just built a driver and 5 hybrid with Graffaloy shafts for my father and i think the final bill was right around $110. He called me today to tell me he loves both clubs.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

In my experience, the cheaper sets that come with a bag and all clubs tend to be just that, CHEAP. My boss bought an Acuity set from Dicks sporting goods and for 2 rounds his setup looked a lot better than mine, until the driver head fell off while in the bag! I have since replaced my bag and carefully built my set by nickel and diming, now I have my perfectionists idea of a decent set, and his cheap acuity set is showing ever more wear as my clubs remain scratched but gleaming! In this game, it is worth it to invest at least a little, if you have too cheap a club, it will absolutely show.

Humble up and buy used Cobra or titleist stuff!! .....I would love a set of red dot ping eye 2's.......hint hint(if anyone has some let me know!)

Getting better........

I bought my Titleist 975J driver for less than $60 shipped and it was in great shape(no sky marks or missing paint). Probably could've got one for less if I had looked around more. There are plenty of decent drivers out there for $50.

I agree with all of the above, I was just attempting to answer the posters original question which was:

so, is it possible (and a decent idea) to get this head attached to a new shaft? And if so, is it financially worth the effort? Which is why I said:

Now had he asked where he would best spend $50....
