It may be the luck of the draw with the players that happen to be at the top of the leaderboard this week. But it seems that every closeup I have seen, the ball has been either a Callaway or a Nike. I haven't seen any Titleists, or Srixons, for that matter.

Just a fluke?

Of course, because Nike are not known for their promotion and advertising!

Seriously, it's not that suprising is it? Given the size of the Nike marketing machine.

According to the bridgestone ball fitting guy that was at the driving range the other day Bridgestone actually makes Nike's balls for them.

For sure, but Bridgestone don't market the brand.

I think I am missing your intended point here? Or was that statement not meant to be related to my post?

I wouldn't be surprised. Nike has always been a marketing company, not a manufacturing company (true for all of their products, not just golf.)

I suspect Nike actually owns very little as far as actual manufacturing facitlites. They design their product, find someone that will build it to their specs, then sell the product.

Here's the thing: lots of top players are in the stable of a company other than Titleist. Nike and Callaway are aggressive in recruiting, I think. Many of these companies have balls with their logo on it, and thus their players aren't going to use any other brand.

Mahan is on Ping staff, so I think he's playing Titleist. Hansen, Weir, and McIlroy at Titleist staffers IIRC.

Did anyone see the clip of 4 guys sitting on chairs divying up the balls into different buckets at the practice range? Was pretty funny haha they just had 100's of balls and were splitting them between your Nikes, ProV1's, ProV1X's, Srixons, Callaways etc.

Tiger of course has his own balls each time - saw that before on a tv clip. He's the only player who does.

I didnt know there were that many Nike sponsored golfers out there. And some golfers use other companies balls. Woods doesnt even use a Nike putter. Im pretty sure Harrington isnt using wilson balls either. It was just an observation I made.

Titleist isnt as popular as they once were. Recently, they have been matched and even surpassed by Callaway, Bridgestone and Srixon.

I'm pretty sure it's not even really close.

You're a bizarre one, TitleistWI. You signed up with that username because you were a big-time Titleist geek. Then you switched to Mizuno, and have since seemed to bash Titleist at every opportunity, often with poor facts as in this case. Was the breakup that bad for you? Titleist was, once again (for the 61st year in a row) the #1 ball played at the U.S. Open.
