my neighbor was telling me that in the third round, he thinks, there was a guy who got disgusted and hit his ball down into the sand trap, turned around and just chipped it back up onto the green, into the hole without even setting up.

anyone know anything about this? I can't find a highlight or mention of it anywhere.

A Work in Progress:

Bag: Physics Stand Bag (ebay dirt cheap special)

ya, it happened, I think it was an amateur too. But I cant remember his name...

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

It was second round, the guy needed to hole the chip to make the cut. Ball was in tall rough, and he missed the ball entirely. Knew his weekend was over at that point and just wanted to get out of there. So did a one-handed downward chop to get the ball sideways out of the rough and into the sand. Spent about 4 seconds setting up the sand shot and holed it.

I could swear it was Nathan Tyler, who I believe is an amateur. However, the only amateur finishing at +6 (which is where the story leaves him - needs birdie to make cut, makes bogey), according to

http://www.majorschampionships.com/usopen/2009/scoring/ , is Rickie Fowler, and I know it wasn't him. I'm certain it was an amateur.

The story exactly. Man, that was an awesome shot to watch. It's like when you were trying to break 100, and the 101st shot of the day seemed to always be fantastic.

I laughed hysterically when he made that, just because there was no emotion on his face.

It was amazing. He was totally disgusted and just hit away.

Haha yup I saw this as well. I think he tossed his club at the caddy right after making it. Kind of sad, I saw someone else who didn't make it finishing up and he smiled, waved to the crowd.

Sort of disrespectful to the tradition IMO, at least the second player respected a chance to play at such a prestigious level.

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.

    • As long as it's from a reputable seller it should be just fine. Just make sure the picture of the weight looks the right shaped weight for that specific driver head. You can even weigh it yourself when you get it if you want to be extra sure. Personally I don't consider $15 for something that can greatly change your impact and delivery characteristics to be "not cheap" but that's just my opinion. Especially since you know it's bringing it closer to what you were fit into and you're already saving a bunch of money by going the used/prior model year route too.
