If I was the third guy, you would have your driver wrapped around your head and your putter up your ass...

i seriously doubt that... but hey, we're on the internet, you can talk as big as you like! get crazy with it. would you then shoot me and then bury me in a sandtrap? how about drowning me in a pond? a putter up the a$$ just isn't very creative, imho.

Man, your such a bad ass. Maybe physically harming you isn't such a great idea, but I'd have no problem dishing it back at you and messing your equipment up.

People hitting up into you I hate and inconsiderate people just picking up any golf balls make me angry. Today, a pair on a cart drives over to our fairway and goes near my ball and to me it seemed like they were checking to see if it was their errant drive. When I got there my ball was nowhere in sight so I chased them 200 yards and as I got close, they ask "were you playing a Wilson?"... One of the guys had the audacity to give me an attitude when I asked them what were they thinking when they picked up the ball. If they actually thought it was their ball, why didn't they hit it? I hate stupid people.

i handle situations like this very easily. if a ball lands within about a 20 yard radius of where i am, i simply walk over and pick their ball(s) up. i'm 27 and have done this quite a few times, only 3 people have ever said anything. aside from the fact that i'm 6'5'' 230 lbs., they always know they're in the wrong and shouldn't have done it in the first place so they usually wait until i've cleared out to rehit. out of those three, two of them honestly did not see me, so i politely replaced their balls and apologized. and when the other who came asking for his ball back, i took my 3 iron, dropped the ball, hit it into the woods, and told him he should be glad i wasn't aiming at him. problem solved. i do not suffer fools lightly, especially those who put my health in danger.

i've had a few people pick up my balls when i've driven into them without seeing (both were doglegs or had areas cut into the trees - i didn't know there was a group in front of me, so I tee'd off, they picked up my ball, i asked them if they saw it and both times i was told they didn't

)...if you're mad enough to do that, you should just approach them about it and don't pull a juvenile move like taking their ball

Goals: Correct slice on driver/long clubs(close!), work on consistent iron distance, practice aiming irons

Seems a little excessive. 20 yards is not anywhere near putting anyone in danger. Weekend play on public courses is often like being in a shooting gallery. IME, more often from the adjacent holes. In 30+ years, I've never pocketed anyone's ball- OK one altercation, but I didn't take the guys ball... I left it with him.

To the OP... I probably would have waited on the next tee and insisted that they play through.

my buddy had the teebox and hit a beast shot...

my other friend was mid waggle when we saw a cart come out of the woods from the adjacent fairway straight for the ball on the right edge of the fairway... my buddy ran for his cart yelling 'hey!!! thats my ball' before we could even get our shots off... lol... we didnt know what to do cuz if we backed him up... the group behind us would have assumed we all had teed off already... if we hit... it might have caught them and our buddy going to retrieve his stolen ball... luckily he's 6'6 280 and built like a gorilla... needless to say those guys apologized

Inconsiderateness aside, that has to be the worst course layout I've ever seen. The tee box is practically in the fairway, it's an accident waiting to happen.

I agree. The OP also says that proper

course etiquette is to wait until the group on 6 has hit before teeing off on 5. How is that communicated to golfers? Is it posted anywhere? You're assuming that the group on 5 was inconsiderate. Could they simply have been unaware of the local practice? Sounds like it would have been a great opportunity to give the teens a gentle lesson in local custom and etiquette. It certainly doesn't seem to fall into the same category as intentionally hitting into a group to move them along a bit faster.......

I like this answer most, I think. Something had to be said to them too of course. Having to tee off with bunch of pissed off people standing around would have probably been pretty nerve wracking for them. Or at the very least it would have improved your game I think. I prefer the *******s to be in front of me rather than behind.

Been playing just a few months but I play almost every day.

You are 100% correct..I wish I had the time to comfront those people

Good point.

If I were on the tee box of #x, and you were on the tee box of #y, I would probably go ahead and tee off. How could I know that the course designer was an idiot?

Well, I guess I handle things less gentlemanly than I thought.

I had someone cut in front of me today on the 18th. They for sure saw me coming up the 17th and because it was getting dark they "skipped" a few holes to play the last one.

And then the idiots stood in the fairway looking for their balls forever knowing we were waiting to hit -- with literally minutes of daylight left, mind you. I gave them a couple more minutes and finally yelled "fore" and hit it down the fairway.

It really came close to them and going at high velocity. I regret losing my patience and hitting so close to them, but I'd expect the same to be done to me if I had been so inconsiderate and stupid. I did yell "fore".

There's a little par 3 course (slightly more than a pitch/putt, but not much) I play sometimes. The long hole on the course has two tee boxes, one ~120 yards, one ~150 yards IIRC. It's set up really badly -- a tee box for one of the later holes is maybe 10-15 yards past the back of the green. There's a little screen that protects the actual tee area, but the last time I played there one of the guys waiting for that tee was taking practice swings behind the screen. I decided that it must be an optical illusion, no one would put a tee area so close to the green, so I went ahead and played. Wouldn't you know it, I flushed it and for probably the first time in the history of my game, I used too much club and carried well over the green. Didn't hit him, but it was a lot closer than I liked, and certainly closer than I intended. Seems like an accident waiting to happen, though... not as bad as the course layout above, but similar problem.

In the bag:

Definitely tell their coach. These kids are on the golf team, and they're teenagers. They knew what they were doing, probably thought it was funny.

I have no idea what was in the mind of the course designer....but its crazy

Perhaps, with just a few minutes of daylight remaining, you should have just called it a day and packed it up.

I don't think that you had any right to hit in to the guys ahead of you just because you wanted to get one more hole in before dark. That was dangerous and totally uncalled for. What if you had hit one them and actually killed them? How could you justify that, to yourself, or to their families?
