It is time for a new driver, mine is beat all to hell and I have some money to spend.

I have it narrowed down to either the 08 TM Burner or the 08 Cobra F Speed LD.

My clubhead speed is 93-105. I dont have a slice, i usually have a draw. Anyways I'm just looking for maybe a little distance and the fact that I need a stiff shaft instead of the regular one I use now.

Which of these two would suit me better? Or if you can think of a better one within the same price range, please share.

thanks

My son has the 2007 Taylormade Burner and I have the 2008 cobra. I got the cobra because I needed something relatively forgiving, which the cobra does really well. My son has a lot more accuracy and power than I do and lights up the course with the Taylormade, when he uses my driver he does lose 20 yards.

The one thing that I will say, and you should use the read my posting tonight, the cobra makes an awful sound. Its this really, really loud out of tune "ping".

If I were you I would try out both, but if this was something that you are getting via the internet then go for the Taylormade if you don't have a slice.

I love my TM Tour Burner so I am a little biased towards TM but I think they make excellent drivers. Try out both and go with whichever suits your game the most and you can't go wrong that way.

Another driver you might be able to get in your price range is the Ping G5 driver. I would look to see if there are any demo days coming up nearby. Those really helped me in selecting a driver (Big Bertha Diablo 10* with regular flex).

Just to add a different flavor: I wanted a new driver recently and after some research bought one from Pinemeadow Golf. It is the one shown at this URL:

http://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/golf-c...mand.bk.driver

It had a good review at this URL:

http://www.learnaboutgolf.com/Golf_C...BK-Driver.html

This is the first driver of this type that I have used and am still learning the best way to hit it but so far it works well for me. My old drivers were cheapies from the sports stores and the BK is definitely giving me longer drives; it is probably straighter, but I am still working on that. It find it better to tee the ball lower than I would with the previous drivers, probably due to the weighting in the head. I like it.

I thought the exact same thing. I hit the Cobra at a demo day and thought the sound was terrible. I was playing the Nike Sumo 5000, and some think that driver had a bad sound, but I thought the Cobra was way worse. Sound doesnt normally bother me at all, but I thought that there were better drivers out there for the money.

I've never hit the Burner, only the R9, but I know there are many that are pretty happy with it. I'm not sure what your requirements are besides a stiff flex, but I agree with ApocG10, check out the Pings and Nikes. I thought the G10 and the Rapture v2 were both very nice. I have the Dymo Str8-Fit, and I'm not swapping for anything right now. Someone will have to pry it from my dead hands. And like Chadbert said, look for a demo day nearby. It's worth being patient. Also, I was pretty impressed with the Mizuno at the last one I went to.

    • Day 283 - 2025-07-10 Got some work in while waiting for someone to show up for a GEARS lesson (they did not, and haven't reached out in 24 hours, so I'm getting a bit worried). Also recorded a video for @saevel25.
    • I agree. Personally, I've been watching the LPGA for a couple decades. My wife and I attended the US Women's Open in Edina, MN way back in 2008.  Two comments:  1 - I also enjoy another women's sport; Softball. The College Softball World Series is a big event in our household. Interestingly, my niece plays softball and my nephew plays baseball. Often we go watch them both play the same weekend. Both games will have the same start time. I have to say I enjoy the softball more than the baseball. The women are on a 20 second pitch clock. Yeah, you read that right 20 seconds. Plus, the players stand in the dugout the entire game and sing and/or chant stuff the whole time. Tons of energy. The game moves along at a fast pace. We often watch my niece's entire game and then go over to watch my nephew and they are in the 3rd inning. The baseball seems to move at a crawl after coming over from the softball game.  2 - My daughter and I have taken to watching the youtube channel "The Golf Girl Games". Great content. Very entertaining. If you haven't watched them yet, I recommend them.
    • It's not too far off, Scott. You can probably let the arms go up earlier in the backswing so the change of direction isn't quite so dramatic.

    • I haven’t really filmed in a while. Starting to feel like my body is close to being at full strength again, but I am also 65! I played a few round and my distance is down as expected. Here are a 6 iron and driver swing. My grip is a bit weak in these so I’ve focused on that the last few days. I went over my Erie notes. I’m trying to swing down from the top and not out. I want my weight to start shifting forward at about P3. And I want to push my left hip back in the downswing, which I was not successful in these swings. Ball flight has been pushes or pull draws with the irons and fades with the driver. Looking at these swings I can see why. I just need to change the picture.
