Dumb question -- how do I lie on this?

I'm still a bit of a simpleton when it comes to calculating/the rules a bit sometimes. Usually provisionals occur on my tee shots rarely is it an iron shot.

First hole

Stroke 1 -- driver to right rough just a little off fairway but with a tree somewhat between it and the hole, but there's room to punch through, because wedge would surely hit the branches aloft.

Stroke 2 -- 7 iron pulled, hits tree trunk deflects into oblivion (looks to be probably lost)

Stroke ? Provisional ball 7 iron from same spot, punched nicely onto green. (The original ball was not found.)

How do I lie now?/what # stroke is my first putt?

Thanks,
McDoggie

Thanks, that's how I [thought] I had scored it, btu I'd assessed my self an extra penalty stroke when I did the tally in the bar afterward, to be on the safe side. [Hey who wants to add strokes later if they were wrong about a rule?]

I had wrote in a 6 on the score card in the bar, but I just checked the details and it was actually a 1 putt; my only one of the day. Turns out I had assessed myself an extra penalty stroke until I knew for sure.

I thought it was a 6 all told for a nice double bogey. Turns out it was a bogey.

The concept that the next "stroke" is replacing the lost ball, and the stroke after that is actually hitting it, should help me remember next time, thanks.

The way I always remember it, whether into water, OB, etc, is 1 in, 2 out, hitting 3. Then you don't even have to worry about which is the penalty stroke, etc.

Tee shot lost (1 in) Bringing it back out (2 out) Hitting three

I count the balls landing on the ground/hazard. First it's the tee, that's 1. Next shot goes in the water, that's two shots. Then I drop the ball, three shots, hitting my next, four shots.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

your first putt is stroke 5. not really sure what was so difficult to figure out. if you hit a ball OB, you have to hit a provisional ball and add a penalty stroke. it's like adding 2 strokes to your score before you've even hit the ball in the first place (before you hit it OB)

Goals: Correct slice on driver/long clubs(close!), work on consistent iron distance, practice aiming irons
