My favorite drill to get that inside-out swing is to do half-swings with short irons.

it may take a coach to teach you the right positions, but the movement from hands at your waist level in the downswing, through impact can be repeated over and over and over. Hit a whole bucket doing a half swing. For reference on body position, here is an image: http://forums.iseekgolf.com/images/adamscott_swing.jpg Make your swing go from pane #7 to pane #8 with about an 8 iron. Don't feel like you need to have THAT much "lag" on the swing, but even if you have a smaller angle with the wrists, note his body positions and try to emulate them in those two panes.

Try this (preferably on the drivng range first)

Set up aiming right down the middle of the fairway.
Try to hit the ball out of bounds to the right (swing towards the out of bounds).

This will force that inside to outside swing.

If you've ever played baseball, it kind of feels like when you are trying to hit to right field.

Don't get frustrated. I was a big time slicer with the driver when I started. After a couple of years of frustration I went out to the driving range determined how to hit a draw. Surprisingly I found myself able to do it the first day or two of trying. I still have to watch myself as my natural swing just wants to go left to right but if I concentrate on the inside to outside mechanic, I no longer have an issue. In fact, I rarely hit the ball out of play with my driver these days.

Have you taken lessons? If not, I would recommend that you find a pro and take a series.

With that being said, here is what I do when my driver goes wild on me. I go to the range and warm up with some wedges and short irons. When I am loose and relaxed. I will hit the driver for a bit, starting with what feels like a half swing. Then I will step up to 3/4 for a few. If those aren't going straight, then I know I have a set up (grip, stance, etc.) issue and will review those. When I get that corrected, I will start going back a little further to full. Once they start going a little wild, I will back off and that is my swing that I try to repeat a few more times. Then I will hit some more wedge and iron shots and come back to the driver. Then wedges, then driver, and so on.

I think that's a horrible image to use. It's so far behind (left) of the target line that it's drastically skewed and doesn't "look right" at all.

That's true. I'm not even sure that hole pictured is where he's aiming.

I didn't have a ton of time and couldn't find a better one. If you have one, that would be awesome. To Boeing777, remember, he's aimed quite a bit left of that flag in the picture. on your downswing, the club head should be substantially inside the target line made by your feet.

    • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
