Why is Tiger no longer dominating like he used to?

All I know is he has only missed 2 cuts in a major ever (as a pro) and one of them was a legitimate excuse with his father dying. Whats the excuse/reason for this one?

IMO, Tiger's most amazing major victory was the British Open not long after his father died. He never receives enough credit for that. At the time I didn't understand how emotional he was when he collapsed into Duval's arms after the final putt. But when my mom died I was worthless for six months or more. I can't imagine Tiger putting together a performance like that, barely two months after Earl died.

As far as so-called excuse for this one, missing the cut is a shock but Tiger failing to capture a par 70 major is par for the event. Brandel Chamblee gave the stats prior to the tournament. It's stunning how it breaks down, Tiger with an awesome percentage winning par 72 majors, big dropoff but still good at par 71, and way below his typical winning percentage at par 70. The press never gives enough weight to that stat. A friend of mine, a big golf bettor, turned me onto it many years ago, before the golf media was emphasizing it at all. I wonder how that friend always seemed to have a handle on Tiger in the majors, whether he would exceed or fall short of expectation. BTW, looking ahead a month to the PGA, Hazeltine is a par 72, albeit beastly par 5s with nothing on the tips below 572 and some well beyond 600.

He didn't play good enough. On most courses on the PGA Tour, you can have a bad day and still score well getting up and down. On Turnberry, if you miss the short grass, you will struggle to even get a bogey, let alone par. Sometimes the ball isn't even found. Tiger is a good iron player, but he's got some stray shots once in a while, but being such a great short game player that he survive. That's just not possible on a course like Turnberry.
