Remember that your handicap is not an average. Take the 10 best scores of your last 20 rounds and plug them into the handicap formula (which requires knowing slope and rating for those scores, etc.). You should find that your handicap is considerably lower than you think because it is meant to be an idea of the best you can shoot, not an average.

Just the same, great score! Congratulations!

I just wanted to make sure you knew the handicap system so that you are aware of your skill level and not shorting yourself.

that is awesome! congrats!

It reminds me of last spring, I was playing with a guy who had taken a bunch of lessons, but had only played probably 8 rounds or so, and always was well over 110, and usually quit keeping score at some point -

then all of the sudden he just went out and shot an honest 92. the course was no push over either, lots of trouble. He was so pumped that the next time we played he took 3 10's on the first three holes and quit keeping score - he still hasn't broken 100 yet - but he still has the memory

http://golf.about.com/cs/handicappin...calculated.htm

This site has a free handicap calculator. I haven't used it, because I record my scores online and have the handicap automatically updated, but I think if you can get the differentials, it will figure the handicap (it's not all that hard to do yourself, though). This site explains teh handicap calculation pretty thoroughly too.

Okay, I will say it....

Either A) you are not a 30 handicapper, B) you didn't shoot 84 or C) some combination of both

Either way it sounds like your best round so kudos, but be careful pimping that story around because I would bet my life savings and then mortgage my house and bet more against a legit 30 handicapper shooting a legit 84 on a legit course.

Okay, I will say it....

A) i hope you have alot saved up B) i hope your family likes living with me or C) a combination of both. LOL jk When i get time later i will look at that handicap sight and try to figure out an exact number. I have only broken 50 like 3 times in my last 20 rounds before this. I use to play with 5 clubs and since 2 weeks ago i am up to 11. maybe that is helping

I don't think saltman was trying to be mean...probably just didn't realize that we had established that the handicap was probably not right in the beginning of the thread.

Anyway, it's still a great round. I am sure the additional clubs are helping (by the way, you're allowed to have 14 clubs. JK).

I also hope I didn't come off as condescending about the handicap thing. I just noticed that you said you "averaged" your rounds and I want to clarify the handicap thing for you.

12.2

Correct. That is the handicap if you based it on that single score.

The differential for the course is 12.7 if you are going to use it along with other scores. You don't multiply by .96 until you average the differentials of teh total scores being used.

Bowling is so much easier to calculate. :)

I always told people I was a 20+ (I shoot in the 90's). I just went and calculated it on that link provided earlier and I'm a 17.2. Dang it. I guess the course is more difficult than average. (73.4/133) I never knew what slope meant, never really cared. But now I'm glad I do!

BTW, I LOVE the comeback. Priceless. Nice job shooting an 84 too. I remember my 82. Ah, that was the day... lol

The quick answer to slope and rating is that rating is the score a scratch golfer should shoot on that course and slope is the score a bogey golfer should shoot.

    • I apologize on behalf of… idiot men. Sorry about that. Next time, tell the guy to shut up. 😛  Day 553, May 8, 2024 18 holes from the whites with @rwolfe. Windy AF today, but hit some good shots. Slid back a little from where I was the previous two days, but… I can get it back. Made a pretty nifty birdie on 12 from some pretty odd places. 😄
    • The angles look fine. Get as much light as you can on the area — you want the highest shutter speed you can get. Less blur.
    • Snap @ Tour Spoon! Birdied 11 yesterday. Hit a poor iron ,stopped on edge of bunker , pitch with my lob wedge landed about 6’ away and went in. Only 12 & 14 to go, long par5’s into the prevailing wind. Might be waiting a while although I did have about 15’ on 12 after the birdie on 11, didn’t miss by much.
    • Tested the Maxfli TourS yesterday. Compared to my former ball, the Titleist AVX, I got an extra 10 yards off the driver and half a club (5-7 yards) off the irons. The combined extra yardage from the driver and fairway wood meant that on par-5s where I usually hit an 8-iron third shot, I hit a PW. It's just a smidgen softer than the AVX and seems to spin well. Some of the reviews indicated a low ball flight, but I did not notice it. I also did not observe any problems with the paint quality, which was an issue with previous Maxfli models up to and including the U series.  My previous round I tested the Bridgestone E6, a two-piece ball with a different cover. It was OK; the same distance and feel as the AVX but with less spin.
    • Sad tale.  Both the A's and Raiders.  IMO, cities shouldn't be building stadiums for MLB/NFL teams.  But that's the world we live in.   DAY 3:  30-min range session with irons and wedges.  Working on follow thru -- no hooks! 🙂
