Thanks for that routine, but on this one, take it or leave it from a windsurfer whose spent way too many hours evaluating wind, but

I do that before I chose the club, not after. Sometimes I'll put one back in the bag and go for another, depending on wind. A tailwind with a mid iron could get me 10-15 yards more, a headwind easily ten -15 yards back. Sure OK to do again to do it just before one hits, but for me mostly it's a matter of club selection ahead of time.

True, you have a good point there. If I think that I have too much headwind or tailwind, I'll end up swapping clubs and starting back at #1. I'm glad you pointed that out though, because it does happen a good bit of the time.

Yeah, I use a routine, but it's not too strict. It's more for making sure I visualize and walk through the shot before I take it.

Full swing, I test the ground behind the ball, then I step behind it and check out the line between the ball and target. Figure out what kind of shot I'm gonna take and take 2-3 practice swings, setting my tempo, and what kind of swing I gotta put on it. Sometimes if I'm feeling iffy on the lie, I'll swing to the ground, but usually, I'll just swing upright. Then I just step up, waggle so I know where my hands are comfy, and take my shot. My short game shots are like that as well, but even more important since I play short game to feel.

Putting, I'll get my read, step up, 2 practice strokes for distance, looking back and forth visualizing speed of putt, and then I move up and fire away.

The routine makes sure I think through the shot which is improtant for my game as well as being quick when I step up to the ball. The longer you linger over the ball, the more manipulations you're gonna try to make. It gets me stepping up and firing away.
