California Amateur Tours

Anyone familiar with any good amateur tours in California? Im looking for a way to get in tournaments while in school and busy, so weekend play is ideal. Any tour that has a fair amount of tourneys and reasonable fees would be great. Any and all insight is greatly appreciated!

The Golden State Tour and Pepsi Tour allow amateurs to play. The GSTour actually gets some sizebale fields too. Mainly College and Junior College kids. Looking for extra experience. I played with a kid yesterday who was probably still in high school (he played really good too). Other than that there are the local City Championships. You can find these at amateurgolf.com Now noticing your Cal avatar I assume you're up north? GSTour doesn't get up there, but the Pepsi Tour does.

Thanks for the quick response. Im up north during the school year, yes. Over Summer's I'm in Southern California, and I really don't mind making the drive down here some weekends during the school year, since it's a good chance to visit friends down here too. I take it you play in these tourneys? What is the general level of play like, and how competitive are the tourneys? I want to know what I'm getting myself into

The GSTour is really great competition. Two players from last year made it through QSchool and are playing on the PGA Tour this year. There are some top level players on this tour. Check the results link on the website. They are broken down by Pro, Senior and Amateur categories. In the Pro division if you're not breaking par, you're not making money. Amateur isn't quite that rough, but they'll throw up some red numbers.

Pepsi Tour, don't really know about the NorCal guys, but down south here, I've made money shooting even. I've won twice, 2under and 1under. But, only tied for second with a 3under on Wednesday.

Ah, just what I was looking for. Thanks for the info. Im going out of town for a couple weeks, hopefully immediately after that Ill find my way into a few of these tourneys. Perhaps Ill be seeing you at one of the events in the future!
