I've played courses with the GPS system in the carts and have played with other people who have their own GPS and every time I get the chance to use it, I find I hit better shots and it cuts 3-5 strokes off my round. Guess it just gives me confidence that I'm hitting the right club. Now it's time to get my own. My dad and I are going in on it together but we both don't know much about them. We have a little list of stuff we want on it so hopefully you can help us narrow down what would suit us best. Here's a list of stuff we are looking for:
- Color picture where it shows the physical hole and location of bunkers/water/etc.
- Yardages to water/bunkers/front of green/back of green/middle of green etc. Basically shows all important yardages.
- Lot's of courses pre-loaded or the ability to load courses on there without having a low limit of courses you are able to load.
- Some of them have a monthly subscription fee to pay and if we can, we would like to get one that doesn't have one.
- Has the ability to track how far your last shot was.
- $400 is about the limit for us but we can go a bit higher if need be.
We play a bunch of different courses in Northern VA, Orlando, and the Outer Banks.

Upro has a $100 rebate which makes it 300. It does all you describe and more. You can load 50 courses at a time but you can keep thousands on you computer. Search upro for more info. Of course there are others. I think upro is the best.

I really want one right now, but I just dont think I can afford it at this point as I bought all new clubs this year and I have a wedding coming up next year I really need to start saving for, so I might have to wait until Christmas. However I am looking at the laser rangefinders, more accurate and with GPS you usually have to pay a monthly/yearly fee and most GPS systems dont have every course available to you. In fact I dont think any of them have every course out there. I would look into those as well.

Looks pretty good though at first glance the promode courses are expensive.

Garmin logix gps-8 has everything you need $185@dicks sporting goods, it is not color thats the only thin u wanted that it doesn't have. Also certain cell phones( I think blackberrys and I phones) can be used as gps systems.

I've been using the uPro GPS for about 9 months and am very happy with it. It'll do all the things you mentioned. Plan on spending an additional $80 for credits. It drops the courses down to only a couple bucks a course and you only have to buy them once. Plus no monthly memberships.

They also have some really cool features coming out that will be downloadable like voice recognition and score keeping.

The uPro looks sweet. Coincidentally I found one of those left in a cart when I was working the other day and it was the first time I had seen one of them. Maybe no one will claim it lol. That seems to have pretty much everything I'm looking for. I really like the uPro after reading more on it. It seems to have all of the courses I usually play in my area and in my vacation spots which is a huge plus. The basic mode seems, well, basic. But the Pro Mode looks sweet and it doesn't cost too much extra. 10 ProMode courses for $60 isn't too shabby. I think I found a winner here. Thanks guys.
