Ive changed my golf swing slightly recently so that my first movement on the downswing is so it starts with my left knee moving slighly towards the target and the shoulders only start swinging later on in the swing.

Ive played two rounds so far with this new swing and its gone really well, but every so often i hit a few hooks and i have no idea why, i have never hit a hook before. COuld it just be down to lack of practice and consistency with new swing or is there an underlying swing fault

ive checked my grip and its seems to be fine

hard to say without seeing your swing, is it possible that your hips are not clearing enough or quickly enough to let your arms swing through? if that is the case often the right wrist "flips over" to try adn correct this,... just a thought. Try swinging with this on the range and physically imagine you turning your hips and not even thinking about the ball.

I think you are just going through a major swing change. Inconsistencies will be there for a while until you can ingrain the new swing into your muscle memory. Just take it slow and don't force anything or add too many other swing changes. You will work it out. Better players tend to miss with a hook/push so that should make you feel better!

    • I would have paid you. I think it's a reasonable assumption that the extra putter was not in play.  Having said that "Did you declare the extra putter out of play?"  This person seems like a bit of a weenie and he is also setting a dangerous precedent. Let's say he wins next month. Then when it's your turn to pay up, you could refuse. Telling him "I timed you on hole 8 and you searched for your ball and found it at 3 minutes and 1 second. So, you should have taken stroke, plus distance and didn't." You could then show him your stopwatch feature on your phone where you timed it out to 3:01 and say "See."  I actually would just let it go and assume the guy is a weenie. Because doing stuff like that takes the fun out of friendly bets. If he can't afford to pay up, he shouldn't bet.
