Mind explaining that?

It's been discussed several times on the forum already. Executive summary: most high handicappers would simply be better off without a 60° wedge. It encourages a bigger swing and results in shots being thrown away rather than saved.

People are individuals, consequently this may, or may not, be true in specific cases. I'm rubbish at judging bump and run shots, but can (and love doing) with a flop shot. The 60° helps me no end. I am a high handicapper.

Well here is my bag and I love it.

Driver 10.5*
3 wood 13*
Hybrid 18*
3-PW if you can't hit a 3 iron exchange it for a 21* hybrid
52* wedge
60* wedge
Putter

This seems to work well for me. So if it helps more power to you. It is all preferrence. Give different clubs a try and what works throw it in the bag.

I'm thinking about getting a Taylormade Rescue 19 degree or something close to it, it would work well to fill the gap between a 3W and a 4i right?

My opinion:
Change the strong 3W, buy a reg 15* 3W (why do you want a 2* diff between your driver and 3W??)

Drop the 4i, you said you can't hit long irons anyways.
Drop the 60*, unless you're very familiar with a 60*, otherwise you'll skull it 50yds and cost yourself 2 strokes. SW will work better.

And as Opie said, I'd personally drop the driver and use the 3W. You said you hit your driver good, I'll bet once you get used the 3W, you'll hit it better, more consistant, and give up minimal yardage. I'd buy the driver, but you'll drop strokes buy using the 3W.

Unless you are playing in a formal tournament, there really isn't any such rule. For casual play with your friends I don't think you are doing anything wrong carrying as many clubs as you want. As for me, I currently only have 13 clubs (check my signature) but I plan to add a 50* gap wedge in the near future which will get me up to 14.

For your set, I'd replace the 12.5* and 18* with a 15* fairway wood and then lose the 60* lob wedge.

Driver: 10.5* Offset Driver

Hybrid: Cobra Baffler DWS 20*
Irons: King Cobra II Oversize Irons 3 - PWWedges: Slingshot 4D SW 55*Putter: Crossbax 3.0 MalletBalls: Whatever I can find cheap.

For high school golf, I'd need to follow the 14 club rule right? Other then that, I'd probably be playing all my clubs.

I also have a 15 degree 3W I can use if I have too.

Should I just stop worrying about this, and just take out whatever club I hit worst whenever I get them?

I use less clubs on the long side. I go from driver to 4 wood right to 3 iron. No more high lofted woods or hybrids, thought about changing out for a 3 hybrid but I like that 3 iron too much. I'd rather have a well spaced set towards the short side

I carry 1-3-5, 3(h), 4-9, PW, SW, 60* and putter. If I had to drop a club, it'd be my 5 wood, because I almost never hit that. I can't play it out of the rough like I can my 3h, and I'm not a long driver so I need the 3 wood's distance on a long 5.

As for the 60*, I'm a high handicap and that is one of my best purchases. I've got a Nike Ignite set, meaning fat cavity-backs. The fat sole was resulting in some bad mishits around the greens on less-than-full swings. I was a mess, afraid of taking big swings, making contact with the sole of the club, and sending the ball 50 yards over the green. The result was I either did that anyway, or made contact with such a weak swing that I never got close. With a 60*, I can take a much more full swing and not worry about a misshit. Additionally, as I'm playing law-spin balls, the high loft is the only way a guy like me, with a slow swing speed, can get the ball to not roll too far.
Just my 2 cents.

see my sig, thats whats always in my bag. the only thing I change with my 2h with my 56* wedge if the course I'm playing at has a lot of fairway bunkers or really tall rough. I like the hybrid out of the sand/rough better than an iron.

I could take or leave my 56* I may use it once a round, my 60 I use more than any club.

Screw it, I'm taking the 60 out of the bag for a little while. I'm thinking of going 52, 58. I have a 56 already, I can't really get it up as well as I'd hoped.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
