This whole summer I've noticed that my driver distance has gone down due to a way higher ball flight that carries about 210 and has no roll. This same thing happens with my 3 hybrid(Ignore the signature, I don't have a three wood). When I hit my 3 hybrid with no tee it ends up going farther than my driver with a tee. I have checked the top of both clubs and there is no evidence of skying the ball, and yet....I am. What is going on here?

What flex is the shaft on the driver? I was skying my driver off the tee and moved to a stiffer shaft. No more skying the ball.

The shaft is R flex in both clubs

I have a hunch that when the clubmakers move the CG way back to help high handicappers hit it in the air, they are hurting the better players who have no trouble getting it in the air. The Burner and its shaft are designed to hit it high and that could be your problem.

I know for me, I have always had issues hitting a driver. I also have a really high ball flight as well. I also know that have a different swing with my driver. Something about it causes me to swing faster as well as on a different plane. I guess its just the mental though of holding one in my hands that causes me to swing out of my shoes. You could be swinging your driver differently then all your other clubs, which might be affecting your yardage.

I'm having the exact same issue. Since I started golfing a few seasons ago I've been struggling with a slice. I've straightened out my shots now, but all my shots still go fairly high and get little or no roll, as a result I'm losing distance.

At first I thought maybe I'm just imagining things, but the other day I hit a drive to a green (pin 216) and I saw the ball bounce on the green. I thought for sure I'd roll past but my ball settled down about 1 yard past it's pitch mark just like any good iron shot would.

This is driving me crazy. I don't know if my swing plane is to steep, or if I'm swinging too slow/fast.

I don't mind 0 roll on all my irons. With irons its nice because I never bounce off greens, but on my driver I'd love to get at least some roll.

In the professional fitting world there is a term called, "Coefficient of Restitution" or smash factor. What this means is the efficiency of impact and there are several components that make that happen. If you have ever been fit for a driver, you will have read outs of a bunch of numbers; spin rate, launch angle, side spin, club speed and ball speed. I have heard from several golfers that they do not think their swing is good enough to get fit and this is where I think they are wrong. Each golfer has their own set of numbers and there are shafts that can fit you. From your discription, you most likely have too much back spin on the ball and your launch angel sounds too high. Before I put you to sleep with more info, have you been fit for a shaft in the past?

go to the range and place the ball in different spots in your stance... ball position works wonders some times

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
