So I'm in the market for a decent used set of clubs as I sold my X-14's (graphite shafts) to my cousin. All I have left is my YES putter.

After much searching on this site I've lined up 6 lessons but need to get some replacement clubs first. Given my horrid ability out on the links I figured I would settle for a decent used set off Craigslist or the local Golf Galaxy. Here is what I have considered:

Adams Tight Lies Complete Set $300 shipped from Rock Bottom Golf (New)
Adams Idea Hybrid Irons (New)
Ping Eye 2 (Used)
Ping G5 (Used)
Nike CCI (New)

Also, should I consider a hybrid over the traditional 3 and 4 iron? What should I expect to pay for a good used set? Not worrying about a driver now. Would like to focus on irons and putting.

I'm sure neglected to mention other brands above so feel free to suggest.

Why did you sell your X-14s? I have one of these sets, and they're certainly better than any of the stuff you're looking at now.

Anyway, there is a guy called timtheputterman on ebay. Check his listings, he should have something that suits you. (Even though he has increased his prices lately. The Mizuno MX-19 used to sell for $269, now he lists it for $500)

The Adams tight lies set is OK, but remember that you will get what you payed for. Check their photos (the bigger more detailed photos) on rockbottomgolf.com, notice that the finish on their irons and woods is really really poor, but again, you only pay $300 for a full set from tee to pin.

Also check this forum's marketplace, some very good deals could be found there and the prices usually drop drastically.

Good luck on your search, and keep us updated.

if you want some good used blades, look at Titleist 670, 680, 681, 690. If you want something easier to hit, probably a used callaway would be best. To bad you sold yours

These Cleveland's are a bit higher than the Adams set, but they're some fairly nice clubs (not to mention good looking), and they're all new. I can't testify for how they hit, but in all honesty, they're probably not $200 better than the Adams. But something to think about :

I'm not terribly partial to Cleveland clubs or anything, but I'd definitely suggest taking a look at the TA-7's. I got my used set, 3-PW, for $150 at edwin watts last year. They're in great shape, a very good value. I've seen an identical set with better grips for $160 at PGA superstore very recently.

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
