Here is a video of me swinging a 3 wood. (My old trusty Wilson Ultra).
I just seem to not be able to rotate my lower body, however hard I try. I lose a lot of power because of that and my average distance off the tee using that 3 wood is no longer than 210 yard at best.

I just don't know what's the problem. My swing is too much arm and no body rotation and I just can't get my lower body to rotate. I have the same problem with irons. My distances are much shorter than my playing buddies.

Here is a video of me swinging the 3 wood. This one went about 200 yards only.

And here is another video of one of my buddies. Even though he seems to be having the same problem as I do (not much lower body rotation) he always outdrives me by at least 20 yards to say the least.

And finally, my own 6 iron swing. Again you can see, no or minimal lower body rotation resulting in very poor distance.

I apologize for the poor quality of the videos (cell phone) but they still show what I'm talking about.

Swing while conciously trying to not do anything with the arms. Just swing back and from there, focus on not swinging with the arms. To get anywhere, you'll have to move the lower body. In the beginning, overdo it to get the right feeling.

Also think about late acceleration. The arms don't pick up speed until they are at waist height. Let them drop from the top as a reaction to the hips turning, from there you can speed up.

I'm no expert, but maybe try focusing on turning your hips away from your target during the backswing; it doesn't look like your hips move at all, especially in that last video.

Here's an example: (The first 10 seconds show it)

Driver: Cobra Speed Pro S X/10.5*
3W: TaylorMade Rescue
Irons: Adams Ovation 3 (4-LW)
Putter: Ping Zing 2i
Ball: Noodle + Long & SoftGlove: FootJoy SofJoyShoes: FootJoy GreenJoyShort term goals:Break 92 for 18 holesShoot 5 pars or better in one round.

Start the downswing from the ground up. Shift your weight to your front foot, which will cause a hip bump, which will turn your hips, which will turn your shoulders, turning your arms, turning your hands, with the club leading until impact, when they should be about even I believe.

Notice how he starts the downswing. You don't necessarily need that much lag, but it will improve your distance. Watching your friends video, looks he at least tries to have some lag. Also, don't drop your wrists. I use to have that problem because I thought it would give me more power, it doesn't. You lose power and accuracy.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

look at your left leg and foot in the 6i video. at the time when you are about all the way into the backswing.

Looks like your buddy just swings harder than you resulting in more yards. Your swing looks nice and smooth though. Can't imagine that you are actually a 28.

My problem is consistency. I am never consistent. I can never repeat the same good move twice. I just have to do something that will screw over the hole for me. Sometimes I make a GIR, then I proceed to 3 or even 4 putt. I'd hit a nice straight tee shot, then shank the 2nd shot out of bounds, etc..

Last time I played (the round these videos are from) I was hitting fairways like I never did before. I was really amazed. We played 13 holes, 10 of them were par 4's, and I hit the fairway in 9 of them. But then what? I either shanked the 2nd shot, topped it, hit it fat or hooked it. Apparently I am starting to get better with woods, on the expense of my irons. I swear I haven't hit 5 good iron shots yesterday. I can never continuously be good. And that's my main problem.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
