Today I got paired up with a 14-16 year old girl and her Dad. Yup, not just schooled by a high schooler, but a teenage girl. Nicest folks ever, we had a great time out there (humid though). Anyways, she had a loopty, doopty, dippy, 13 swing planes, super handsy swing. She wasn't hitting too long (maybe 170ish-180ish yards off the tee with her driver), but each and every single time the ball would follow the same traj and cut ever so slightly and plop down nice and easy. Irons...woods...her hybrids...pitches...all the same flight path. If there were a Ritz cracker 170 yards out in the fairway she could probably smush it with the golf ball. Anyways, I'm glad her Dad was just as lousy as I was, and missed just as many fairways, otherwise I'd probably cry. Just wanted to share my story of being handily schooled by a high schooler...I will enjoy my humble pie now.

But...

Ouch. Was she playing from the tips? lol.

I've played with someone like that. I asked how long he had played and he said about 1/2 year. Had the worst swing I had ever seen. If a lawn chair would describe a bad swing, his would be like unfolding a camping tent. But he could hit the ball consistently somehow and still make pars.

In my first high school match I was 1 spot away from being paired with a freshman girl who ended up shooting a 42 and beating my teammate after 6 holes. The whole team was ruthless on the kid on the bus ride home.

But...

Oh wait, I forgot to mention that she was playing from the reds (forward) and the guys played from white (mids). But stiiiil, she whoop us, lol.

Wait, she beat you with 170-180 yard drives?

haha, well, she certainly didn't outdrive us (she played from fwd tees anyways), but parred nearly every hole for a very healthy score. Said she learned from her brother...looked to me you couldn't learn a crazy swing like that.

That is no worse than getting schooled by the 75 year old man who never hits the ball more than 175 yards but never misses a fairway and never three puts.

My grandfather would do this. I was always amazed at how good his short game was.

I get outdriven by highschoolers everytime I play. Not to mention they score just above par as well. That's not the bad part, earlier in the year I was getting outdriven by HS girl from the tips.

Just more proof that accuracy/consistency is the key to this game.

This reminds me that one of these days I'm going to play a round not hitting anything higher than my 5 iron. I think I could come out ahead of my regular playing just because I'd be in the fairway more often.

Played with a guy last week that had the worst reverse pivot I've ever seen. He also came over top of the ball. 14 (non-par3) holes.. he missed 1 fairway. He hit a wood from 125 yds. hit driver maybe 200 tops. Played from the tips

Walked off with an 80 and kicked my butt

I loved wooping on old guys when I was in Highschool, it was easy to take their money. Now everyone I play with knows how I play and wont play me for money without me giving them strokes.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
