You've got a pretty nice swing for being a 25 hdcp, you also do not seem to have a problem generating clubhead speed. The only thing I noticed right away was the swing plane is pretty steep especially for the driver. To get a slightly flatter swing plane, try and feel like your hands are behind your head at the top of the backswing, and less like they are above your head. If you pause the driver video at the top of the backswing, you will see what I mean. You've got a very solid athletic swing so far and you should have no problem lowering your scores/hdcp.

looks over the top, which would cause the pulling

Yep, definitely over the top and too steep IMO. You backswing is pretty good except for once you get to the top, you are across the line by a good margin.

Pretty much have to agree with over the top a little too steep, probably causing your pulls and slices.

One thing I will say, is you have a VERY nice swing for a 25 handicap. I'm thinking your game from 100 and in must be pretty weak then? You look pretty big and strong, so I'm thinking you must hit the ball a pretty good way, even if you do pull the ball or slice it...

If you want to QUICKLY lower your scores, work exclusively on 100 yds and in man.

Freeze your video when you are at the top, then move the slider bit by bit on the first move down. The first move down with the club is left (over the top pull). Don't retool your swing, just look at a guy like Jim Furyk coming down and how he loops the club back to the inside coming down from the top. Getting your right elbow back to your side as one of your first moves coming down will help.

PS - Good swing. Good athletic ability and hand/eye coordination.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

Wow, thanks a lot guys for all the critiques and comments.... I really appreciate all the compliments! Thought that I would get torn up for my swing!

Yea, I pull a lot, and now thankfully cuz of you guys I know why. Ive got some things to work on!

CG- yep, putting and 100 yards and in is my downfall, but Im working on that a lot right now too!

beach- thanks for that tip, Im gonna work on getting my right elbow back to my side on the downswing, hopefully that will help some.

Maybe if I stop my backswing a little short than what I'm doing now that might help? Like not flare out my right elbow so much?

Lebowski- thanks man, that tip is pretty nice, did it in the living room and it does feel flatter now!

I appreciate it all guys, keep it coming!!

You're a young guy. Nothing wrong with a long swing. Really, I would just try to loop the club back to the inside before coming down. Fred Couples is another guy that does this.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

When you guys say loop back to the inside, are you saying the club should travel away from me when starting the downswing? I hope Im explaining this right. But I see as the club coming toward my head when coming over the top, and away from me when moving it back inside...

Am I off the mark here?

Oh and one more thing, what flex for irons do you guys think I am judging by my swing? I have a pretty fast tempo, and I'd say stiff, but whatya guys think?

Im looking to buy some clubs on ebay and dont have the luxury of getting fitted for them.

Thanks a ton, cant wait to put these tips to use tomorrow at the range!

Your swing should always be in an arc, never any straight lines. You are over the top. I would concentrate on simply making solid contact for a few weeks. Don't worry about distance. You are a big, young guy and will probably never have to worry about distance, even into your elder years. Now is the BEST time to work on solid contact as a priority, without the bad habits caused by a grip-it-and-rip-it mindset. If I could just go back 15 years...

When they say loop back, they mean that, although you take the club back somewhat steeply, the club will re-route itself on the downswing to a more inside plane, caused solely by delaying the upper body...which you don't do (look up one plane vs. two plane swing). You are too quick, which is why I advised you to focus on nothing but solid hits. Try and take 15 to 20 yards off every club in order to FEEL the club moving with your body weight, instead of your body weight following your club. I would say you are a stiff flex. Get ya some clunkers for irons, work on your tempo and over the top. After a month or six, once you stop coming over the top, immediately (I mean like same day) have enough cash to go get fitted and do it. Put the same swing on the lie board. You look tall like me which means you ABSOLUTELY need fitted irons to take your game to the next level, assuming that is where you want to go.

Wow, thanks Bjw! Very good post, I really appreciate that!

So slow everything down until I make solid contact *all*the time, then reintroduce the speed, then get fitted??

Such a smart move to work on only solid contact and not worry about distance for a while.... Never thought of that...

I really hope to cure this over the top stuff.

1) Put your ball further back in your stance too far forward with your driver and iron
2) depending on your own tempo try taking the club back slower and this will help you complete the backswing
3) your hands are already away from your body but I notice the further out your hands are the more right the ball will go with a slight fade.
4) try starting your forward swing with your hip leading and clearing your body

Went out today to the range to practice everything you guys have said. I flattened my plane quite a bit and worked on dropping my right elbow to bring the club inside.

I was not consistent at all, but I hit quite a bit of hooks and even a few draws!! Things that have NEVER happened for me before. Its only a matter of time now!

Oh, and I hit the Toe of my club A LOT today.... Is this common for tall guys with a "semi" correct swing playing with standard clubs??

Just wanted to say thanks everyone, I will post a new vid in a week or two and see how things have evolved.

Dude....I wish I had your range of motion and athletic movement through the ball. Your swing will evolve into a blend of accuracy and power.

There are some great guys on this form....but beware....everyone has different things that work for them.

Don't be too fast to change your swing based on tidbits of wisdom and not so wisdom found on internet forums.

Take a lesson or two every year and see things develope.

Stick with the game....you are onto a great swing. Think small tweaks...not big changes....and beware the source.

Once again man, thanks for the kind words! I think Ive been making too big a change to my swing, I made it flatter and I feel like Im not getting that big torque that I usually get and that big long swing either....

Im gonna take what you say to heart and just work on one thing. Looping the club back on plane in the beginning of my downswing. I think If I can do that, it would really help keeping my ball flight straight... I have been watching Fred Couples swing and we have a similar takeaway as well as top of backswing.... But he drops his club into the slot and has a sick amount of lag, I think he's the swing I'd like to emulate most! Thanks again man! Jim

Be advised, if I'm not mistaken Freddy gets the club pretty well to the inside on the downswing which makes it a little harder to square the club up at impact. If you have fast hands like Freddy does you can probably do it, many can't though. Many say Freddy has the best hands in the game, he still hits the ball 300 yards.
