Man I have been going to my teacher for a few months now and while I am progressing at a very good rate (according to my teacher), these changes are really hard to get consistent. I am trying to get my impact position where it is "supposed" to be and it is so hard to change something that happens in less than a second. I have been really patient and will continue to be....but man this is VERY hard.

I can get there pretty good at about a 50% swing but if I ever try to bring it to my normal 85% or so, it goes right back to my original position. I can go out and play with the 50% and good tempo and still shoot pretty well with about average distance (because my position is better), but I want to be able to swing my normal full swing with the correct position....that will turn my game around, I know it!! Anyway, that is my rant for now...just had to get it out.

yea thin of paddy hes changeing his impact position has been for like almost a year now and still working on it.

I know man!! You wouldn't think that such a small change would be that difficult, but with it being at that particular part of the swing, it is tough man. If I can just get this one move down, my game will be at another level.

I have no clue why he'd change. He won a couple majors with the other swing!!!!

I know how you all feel about swing changes - can be so frustrating...everything needs to be in synch with a change in order for it to work, and most swings the timing is off for me. I have been working with an instructor for almost two months now and I've gotten slightly better, but still wildly inconsistent ballstriker for an 9 handicap.

Why the change? You have a 5 handicap. Show us the swing vids.

Well, it started out with a few problems. As you will see in the video, I had these problems:

1) Slight over the top move 2) Coming up on my toes with no knee flex in the forward knee 3) Not much hip movement causing me to get stuck at impact 4) I had the dreaded scoop 5) Straighten my takeaway. I have very good hand eye coordination, so I could compensate for these issues and still hit the ball pretty straight and that is why I was still scoring good. But the swing itself, just looked ugly and I was costing myself distance because of these flaws. I want to get to scratch and there was really no way for me to get there with this swing. So I started going to a teacher. So far I have fixed numbers 1, 2, 3, and 5. It's number 4 that I am having problems with. I get in all of the perfect positions until the last frame on video(the video in my lesson...not the one below).

I'm going through the same thing TN94z. When I do the 9-3 drill I feel like I'm hitting punch shots but my impact position is a lot better. Full swings go right back to my old habits though.

And trust me....those old habits are HARD to break!! It just takes lots of range time and lots of balls to get it done.

Very timely thread. Just had my first lesson in years yesterday. First time I'd seen my swing on video. The instructor split screen'd my swing to compare with Jack and Tiger ... it was ugly.

I was setting-up with my hands behind the ball and had the dreaded scoop. I knew I was scooping, I just can't feel that I'm scooping.

Anyway, now I'm working on impact position. Setting my hands ahead at address. Starting at impact and chipping balls. The 3 to 9 swing works okay, but when I try and make a full swing ... lots of shanks.

I hear checkers is a nice game ...
