The paper I write for obtained a week long press pass, so they sent me, this being the first day at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

I still cannot believe what I'm able to do as a member of the media.

Talked with several players for a couple of hours at the range. Talked it up with Ben Curtis and his caddie for roughly an hour, Sing, Paddy Harrington (who, for such an intense player, has the funniest little accent), Christian Cevaer, among others.

I stand by my point: Ben Curtis is one of the nicest men I've been fortunate enough to meet - very kind hearted, very humble, very approachable. I'm a young writer still very star-struck even though this was our third meeting, talking with him while he's swinging, him laughing and poking jokes at Andy (his caddie).

Also, Christian CeVaer is incredibly "gentle" with how he talks to people. It amazes me how much most of these guys are just that - regular guys playing golf...that's really something you miss when watching it on TV.

Singh must have been a little frustrated - there was one camera guy left later in the day, maybe 30 feet or so from him shooting pictures of another golfer. Let's just say the words that came out of Singh's mouth weren't "Hey, I'm sorry but I can't focus...would you mind going to the other side of the range for a little bit to shoot pictures?"

I'll be back there on Thursday, Friday and Sunday - so hopefully Phil and Tiger will be added to this report.

Maybe this would serve as a better expositional sentence construction.

“The paper for which I write…”

I’m sorry - I’m a total prescriptive grammarian prick.

That's great, and I wouldn't worry too much about the prepositions. At least not where they make things cumbersome to read.

As the old saying, often attributed to Churchill, goes:

"That is the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put."

I get to cover golf in my work, too, about two or three times a year. But only once a year does it involve actually attending a tournament.

Of course, I'd like to boost that number a little, or even a lot.

Ending a phrase, clause, or sentence with a preposition is a stylistic matter, not a grammatical one.

Tiger Curtis, if it's the paper you write for, then it's the paper you write for.

Paddy Harrington (who, for such an intense player, has the funniest little accent)

What a repulsively patronising comment.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

What a repulsively patronising comment.

Perhaps the original poster should have said "soft-spoken" or something like that. I don't think he meant anything by it.

, Paddy Harrington (who, for such an intense player, has the funniest little accent)

I think you'll find it's Irish. Have you asked him what he thinks of yours??

Nothing was meant by that - and obviously, it's irish.

My point was that last year he seemed like one of the most intense players on the tour, but that irish accent just doesn't come off that way.

Not a good day for Benny, the support for Phil is really nice to see. Garcia is truly a fun player to watch.

So what makes it a "little" accent?

So what makes it a "little" accent?

There's no way you can tell me that his high-pitched Irish accent doesn't sound like it belongs to a 5 foot nothing man with ears the size of Sabbatini's ego.

I like the way his clubs do most of the talking.

(btw, Mike Tyson has a slightly high-pitched voice and a bit of a lisp. Not sure I would suggest it was in any way funny or unusual...)

I like the way his clubs do most of the talking.

I would suggest it is quite funny and amusing. I just would not do it to his face!

Lets take it easy here. The OP made a mistake in his post. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt and enjoy the updates we will get from this weeks tourney from him.

My goodness - if there's one thing I've learned with writing, it's that you can't say anything without affending someone these days...I should have learned. So here's my statement:

Harrington's accent is a "little" accent because it comes across as quite cheery and high pitched, and does not reflect the intensity he seems to have on the golf course.

Speaking of typos, on the Golf Channel right now it says the PGA is in "Arkon" Ohio. Oy.

No more questions!

Hey Tiger as an Irishman myself I have to say it doesnt offend me one little bit if you think Padraig has a 'funny' accent.

Im from here and sometimes even I think we have funny accents.

First of all, is it an "irish" accent or an Irish accent? Second of all, are you "affending" people or are you offending people?

That being said, it is great that you get to see the players. Can you tell us more about the tournament? How about posting the articles you are writing for your paper? Did you get to see Tiger or the "big name" players? I would love to hear about your experience covering the tour.
