True, but Wiki provides the data for calculating the average and your response raised a few questions, at least in my mind or what's left of it.

Only if you assumed that the distribution of par 4 lengths was normal (statistically speaking*), or at least symmetrical, rather than skewed. And like most things in life it's probably skewed ....

But we digress. The best answer is to look at par 4 lengths on courses that people play, which some have been posting. Bravo. If enough people do this, we could do some statistics on the data ...... *apologies for coming across as pedantic. Me? .... never!

I believe the bogey rating - used in computing the slope rating of a course - is based on the idea that a bogey golfer can comfortably reach a 370-yard hole in two shots.

There are a couple of articles with a few pieces in them from Dean Knuth's website. I'm looking at http://popeofslope.com/courserating/whatsin.html for this quote:
The bogey golfer has an SCGA index of 17.5 to 22.4, his drives average 200 yards (180 yards of carry, 20 of roll), his approach shots on average do not exceed 170 yards (150 and 20) and he tends to slice the ball.

So, I'm guessing that a par-4 on which par/bogey is a reasonably expected outcome would be about 370.

Are we talking yards as in 36 inches or internet yards which are only a few inches in length? I'm a double bogey golfer and I hit the ball 300 internet yards, but my gps uses some funky math and says it's only 215.
