Whats the most insane shot you've seen in real life, and not from a professional. Maybe it was a 300+ yard drive or a triple breaking 100 foot putt, or maybe a hole in one.

For me, I was playing with a guy on the football team. Hes pretty big (6'2 240) but he had never played before. So we get to a short (248 yard) par 4. Theres a little bit of an open dogleg so if you cut it its only about 230 to the green. I hit a 3 wood and rolled it right up to the front of the green. I was pretty happy with my shot. So then my buddy get up and i see he has a 7 iron that looked like it was from 1925 in his hands. Since he had never played before I reccomended that he may want a longer club. He said the 7 iron would work . So he hit it and put it a few feet past my ball. So on his first day of golf ever, he hit a 230 yard 7 iron. It didnt really help him too much and he ended up shooting a 55 but that one shot was crazy.

Share your crazy stories.

The last round I played, my playing partner holed out from 160 yards from the left rough. The shot came off the club beautifully with a high, soaring trajectory, landed on the front left portion of the green, took two hops, and rolled in the cup. (I knew it was close, but when we got to the green, we found his ball in the cup) This was on a Pete Dye green, where long is dead and a deep front left bunker guarding the green.

Some I've seen.

- a coworker, tired of waiting on every shot, hit up on the group ahead on a par 5. We were yelling at him not to do it. He landed his 4 iron on top of their power cart.

- I was on a par five playing with the local doctor (an impatient dickwad), I wanted to wait for the group ahead to clear the green before hitting - he says "you're too far out, you'll never get there". Stupidly, I believed him, then hit a solid 5-wood. The ball landed in front of the green and rolled up to the hole - right between the legs of a lady who was lining up her putt. They waited for us at the edge of the green to see who hit the shot. She was hoping to tear the doctor a new one, but when she saw it was me she looked at and smiled, "that was a great shot from there" then she shot the doctor a little sneer.

- in a company tournament, my wife and I were teamed with another hacker couple. They had no idea what club to use on any shot (they should have only carried 7 irons and putters - they were awful). On the 8th hole, he pulls out a 5 iron for a 120 yard par 3. I tried to convince him to hit his 9 iron. We compromised on 7 irons (his go to club). He puts this gorilla swing on it and hit's up on the ball - barely catching any ball at all. It rolls and rolls and ends up about 5 yards short of the green. He turns and gives me this smug look, "Yup. I knew I should have gone with the 5 iron!". My wife and I still laugh about it.

- I was golfing with some buddies and one of them has a pull cart. On one par 5, he left if ahead of him in the rough while looking for his drive. He finds the ball and get's ready to put a hurt on it with his 3 wood. My brother says, "um, Jim, you may want to move your bag.". Jim says no need, he's gonna hit a high cut onto the green - around his bag. Needless to say he hits a missile about 10 inches off the ground and it smokes the bottom of his golf bag. It comes back right at his head almost as fast as it left the club. He ducked and the ball ended up 30 behind him in a fairway bunker.

A couple shots I didn't see:

- my first round on a real course (I'd played in a field and been to the range a few times), I hit my 3rd shot over the first green into the bush/forest. I went in to look for it and carried my bag with me. I found it right away and a huge opening - if I hit my pitching wedge just the right height. I gave it a wild stab and hoped - I couldn't see it land, but my brother did. When it hit the flag and dropped into the cup, he yelled out, "you phony pri*k!!" We were all about the etiquette!

- I was working at a course one summer. A twosome was playing shots from about 220 yards out on a par 5. We were working in the bunker - I wasn't watching their shots - my buddy said he'd keep an eye on the ball. He yells, "FORE SEAN, FORE!!!". I panicked and dove behind the little truck thing into the sand. I looked up and realized they were about 100 years old and both hit their shots < 50 yards.

My cousin like his 2nd maybe 3rd time out. Shanks his drive almost in to a corn field just maybe a foot in bounds.

Hes 180ish yards out, pulls a 5 Iron One bounce then in the cup. Complete BS, I still haven't gotten an eagle and Ive been playing for 17 + years.

on a par 3 at my regular course, the green is built into a hillside, and as such almost the entire green slopes downwards slightly. a friend of mine had missed the green on his tee shot and was maybe 5 yards below the green on the hill. he blades his attempt at a flop shot, and it zips across the entire green, rolls to the very edge at the top, and hangs there. we had both actually assumed the ball was stopped there, and i was walking up to replace my ball when out of the corner of my eye, i see movement. i say, "holy crap, greg - your ball is moving!" gravity and the slope of the green had evidently gotten the better of the ball, and it was trickling painfully slowly back down the green. as it rolls, it picks up just enough speed to keep it moving, and it's on a collision course with the hole. it ends up stopping about three inches from the cup for a tap-in par. this entire spectacle, from greg hitting the shot to the ball actually stopping right next to the cup, probably took 30 seconds to transpire. it was crazy to watch.

I holed out from 150 yards playing night golf. OK, I didn't actually "see" that one.

About 20 years ago. I played with a friend who was taking his older brother out for his first ever round of golf. Never had a lesson, never been to the range but was a pretty decent athlete. We went to a local exec course. First hole's a 145 yard straight away par 3. I hit up on the green, my buddy follows and we're offering some advice to the brother. He swings out of his shoes and skulls a 5 iron that runs all the way up onto the green and drops!

He looks at us and say "stupid game". Drops the club and walks off the course. Hasn't picked up a club since.

Although the most incredible thing I ever saw wasn't a golf shot. HS team was playing a practice round at a muni near an airforce base and two planes collided mid air and crashed on the course. We were about 3 holes behind the crash scene at the time and saw it like in slow motion. No golfers were injured, but both pilots died. A real tragedy and I can still hear the sound like it was yesterday.

I used to play twice/week with a guy that could crush a 5 wood straight down the pipe every bit of 300 yds, but couldn't hit an iron to save his life.
On a short par 4, he got a once-in-a-lifetime bounce from his tee shot and drove the green, leaving himself a <1ft putt for eagle. Bastard.

And what? The guy made a spectacular golf shot. If you'd like to read about the luckiest shot ever, see my post in the "best bounce" thread.

Saw Tiger during either a practice round, or on Thursday , I'm not sure which, and he was block out by a tree. Hit the ball about 3 feet off the ground for 120 yards, then it shot straight up, and landed about 20 feet away from the pin, 160 yards away.

every one was cheering, until it went straight up. We just all got confused and looked at each other, not knowing how in the world he did that.

last week on the 11th hole par 3 on my home course, just after making a bogey on a par 5 i routinely eagle. with a slight wind behind me from 210 yards out, i pull out my five iron and hit a solid shot about 208 yards, one hop on the green, and it disappears into the hole. i was afraid it released and rolled off the back of the green because the pin was towards the back. but sure enough, it was waiting for me in the hole.

Perhaps this doesn't count not having "seen" it, but my golf buddy once hit a 180-yard duck-hook over a swamp, off a tree, onto the green, and into the cup (Eagle). Not being able to see it, we heard some yelling after his hit, so we immediately jumped into the cart to see if maybe he clocked someone on an adjacent tee box. It was the foursome ahead of us cheering the shot - they witnessed the event! My buddy bought them all a round - good stuff.

Who knows if they mucked with it at all - I got a beer out of it, so it was fine with me.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
