I have a Bold 9700 and have tried  GolfLogix and AccelGolf both. I  like the GolfLogix interface better, "great" but (since GolfLogix didnt keep score) started using AccelGolf an really like it but it freezes up some. They both are FREE at Blackberry App World but if you want the scoring feature with GolfLogix yo will have to pay. Here's one I use now which was recommended to me and so far it's working great "nRange Golf GPS" -    http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/2051 and it's free.

You might try Swing by Swing.  I've been using it for a while and really like it.  And the basic version is free and really all I use.  So you can try it and then if you don't like it you aren't out anything.

They have it for the iPhone and the Droid.  Not sure about Blackberry.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Just downloaded BBGPS on my phone and it looks pretty good. Set up my home course info and will give it a proper try tomorrow. The tee to green distances are not quite right, I guess it measures in a straight line and doesn't take into account elevation change or any curve to the hole. However my main aim is to try and get accurate distances to the pin. Just a quick question on the rules for this kind of thing. My understanding is that it's against R&A; rules to use a device to measure distance during competition rounds - I suppose that would apply here? So I can just use it in practice and work out my yardages from there?

Ditto on the good vibes for BBGPS.

Free, and i've found the yardages spot-on on the courses I play; I've found it pretty easy to map new courses.  The course maps (including the established ones) are very customizable--where you can add distances to up to five hazards etc per hole.  Figured out also that the battery drainage and chances of crashing is markedly reduced if you download the course info onto the device's micro-SD card, and also decrease the GPS refresh rate (i think default is 1 second...i changed to every 2 seconds).  It does offer scorekeeping and other features, but I found those annoying (plus activating them seemed to make the program more unstable--although I have an ancient Blackberry Curve 8310).

To the above poster, the downside of all GPS apps is that the distances are tee-to-green as the bird flies, so for dogleg holes you may get different distances on your GPS compared to course markings until after the dogleg (i.e. especially when on the tee)...although the plus side to this is you know the exact distance to a green if you're trying to cut a corner.  I don't think any GPS (nor sprinklerheads etc.) adjust for elevation changes, although some laser units do (although those that can factor in elevation are against the rules even in courses where other rangefinders are allowed).

One  "etiquette" downside of any smartphone GPS app is that playing partners / passers by sometime think you're constantly checking your phone on the course.

The BBGPS app does work on Blackberries. It is a basic yardage app with few bells and whistles. BUT, the advantage is you can got to the website and modify the GPS info for your course by adding waypoints. If it IS a dogleg that doesn't have the distance to the corner, you can add that in so the next time you play you will have that info.
