Hey guys,

Just wondering about what you guys think of the Odyssey Black Series i #1 putter.

I couldn't find any good reviews on this on the internet.

Thanks so much!

I just bought one and played 3 rounds with it. I'm coming from a Scotty Futura (Mallet style), so it is a drastic change. Feels amazing...best feel putter I've ever used. Full shaft offset is also taking time to adjust coming from a no offset putter. You know exactly where you missed it on the face. My problem is long putts hit off-center kill distance. I need to practice center hits on long putts. I've been leaving everything short.

Mallett was nice b/c anywhere on the face went the same distance. I guess that's good and bad.

I am also coming from a mallet style also. *I really don't like the feel of my putter and my swing suits the blade putters better.

Im glad you like the Odyssey. What do you think about the insert, or should I go for something milled?

if you like a milled, blade putter but still like odyssey, try the black series #1, not the i. I swaped it in for my old white hot XG #7, and it's by far the best putter i have ever putted with. Give it a try.

My problem is long putts hit off-center kill distance

This is one reason I have removed mine from the starting line-up for now, and gone back to my 24 year old PING Anser 4. With the Odyssey I liked the feel from 12ft on in, but I never could be consistent with it on long putts.

That was my first foray into insert putters. It's a nice putter, but I figured you wanted honesty

I have to tell you that I have spent many hours trying so many different putters in the last 2 weeks and keep coming back to 2 Odyssey putters:

1) Black Series i #1 ($269) and
2) White Hot Tour #1 ($149)

First off, I love the inserts on both of these as they provide a "soft" touch and don't get the loud "click" upon impact which many golfers do prefer because of the feedback. Additionally I prefer blade designs though I did enjoy Black series i #9. Though I hit both putters very well, I loved the feel and sensitivity of feedback from the Black Series i #1--smooth as silk-- over the White Tour #1. There is definitely a big discernible difference between the two putters in feel and weighting.

Odyssey golf has a website where you can input your hitting style, stance,
grip etc. and they will come up with a recommendation. Curiously and remarkably their recommendation based on my input was (#1) White Hot Tour 1 and (#3) Black Series i #1.

The Black Series i #1 is priced substantially higher than the White Hot Tour #1. Perhaps I'll win the lottery and the pricing subject will become moot.

You've heard it here many times--ad nauseam--it really is a very personal experience. So there is no substitute for picking up putters at your pro shop and taking the time--well--to putt. That's why there are hundreds of putters for people to select from.

Check out the Odyssey website and use it as a guide.

Good luck. Remember whatever brand or model you choose, that is the best one for YOU.

Thanks for the input all of you guys. It has helped so much.

I went to the golf shop today to test out the Odyssey and I ended up testing out the:
Odyssey Black Series i #1, and the Odyssey Black Series #1 (no "i")

I really like the feel of both of these, and was just wondering what the differences are?

Thanks!

    • Day 7: got out my chipping net and worked on chipping in the living room for a solid 15 minutes. Worked on mostly low shots, but mixed in a couple of high shots as well.
    • Day 228 4-4 More hip/chest turn and wrist arching. Working on hinging wrist a bit later. Foam balls.
    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
    • Day 550 - 2026-04-04 Practiced in the sim at a club for awhile. Did a SW ladder and practiced for awhile with my 7I.
