The first course I joined, Farmville CC in Farmville, NC had no range at that time.

It sucked more for the practice aspects than it did for warm up. We just putted a lot on the practice green...right beside the first tee....stretched out.....swung a pair of irons....

My current home coure has a good range with good turf. Some days I'll slip out there and hit a bucket or two.....work through the bag. Laser range the flags and work on hit to them with various shots. Lazy time....pause between shots. There's plenty of cold drinking water and shaded benches to sit on to take breaks.

Prior to a round, though, I'll see if whoever I'm playing with wants to split a bucket or I'll walk up there and rake over a dozen balls or so.....stretch....hit a couple to get loose. I'll really try hard to get there in time to do this if I haven't played recently.

I hate courses that dont have a range.

I usually hit a small bucket bfore a round and I always chip and putt for at least 15 mins. Usually I get to the course an hour before my tee time to get loose. For the courses that dont have a range, theres only 1 in my area, I go to a driving range or another course a few hours earlier. Thats when I want to play tough or against someone of equal or better skill. When I go out just to work on a certian aspect of my game with my gf, who has been playing for 2 months, I usually dont warm up and just try different approaches to my game. Once I brought only my 5 iron, wedge, and putter because those were the three things that needed improvement. My GF is shooting around 115 so I can play around when she plays with me.

When its golf with the guys or a couple bucks for a hole, I put my "A" game on.

Probably about 90% of the courses I play don't have a range. I've become used to not hitting buckets before a round, though when when I do get a chance to hit a bucket prior to playing, I've never really noticed a difference in my scores. As long as I stretch and get a good 45-60 minutes of putting and chipping, I should feel good before I play.

I play just as bad when I hit balls before playing. Most of the time I have a very limited time to golf, so I squeeze in 9 holes at the little mom and pop courses, which rarely have ranges. Since the first hole on these courses is usually a not-too-long par 4 I will often hit 6i or so off the first tee. Better to scramble for par than to be hitting #3 off the tee and hoping it stays in bounds.

I grew up on a course (my home course for the past few years) with no range, just a 9 hole local piece of junk place, so I am used to not warming up at all.

I generally start out with my best two or three holes in the beginning of the round, no clue why, it just seems to happen that way.

I've warmed up about 3-4 times on a range before I've played before...I generally NEVER do it, and probably never will.

The course I'm a member at doesn't have a proper range, only a "practice fairway" and you have to pick up the balls you hit yourself so not many people use it. Occasionally one of the guys I play with and usually carpool with likes to to a driving range before a round but it's only a couple of minutes drive away, which is handy. I only ever hit half a bucket if I do go.

Do you all avoid these courses? I am planning on playing a course without a driving range, but I have never done that. I like to get those warm up shots in before tee time. How would you warm up without the range? I was thinking about not playing the course just because of them not having a range. What do you guys do?

I used to be the same way. Now it doesn't matter and many times I do better when the course doesn't have a driving range. The reason for this is when I get to the first tee I'm just trying to strike to ball well, hence I do a nice 75-80% with good results.

When warming up the most important thing for me is to pracitce my chipping b/c of all the shots its chipping that I really need to keep my head down and contol my club head speed. Its also a mini golf swing so it helps me loosen up. Hey, but thats just me

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
