I'm looking for some advice on practice routines I can use when just doing range time during my lunch hour. I want to try just going to the range twice a week during lunch, but I don't wanna just go out there blindly, I would like it to be semi-productive. If anyone has ideas for a 30-40 minute routine, please pass them on.

I've tried to do this from time to time and it is tough. Where I play the range, putting green and practice pitching/chipping green are not all that far away from each other, so not a lot of time wasted moving from one to the other, your setup may be different.

Obviously, part of the answer depends on what you feel is important to work on. Personally, if I had 40 minutes, I'd spend about 25 - 30 of it on chips and pitches and the remainder on either my driver or a couple of longer irons, maybe alternate that part of it on different days. If I was going to work on putting, frankly, I'd set aside more time for that and it would be the major part of the time, then probably finish up with some chips and pitches just to loosen up my back a little before going back to work.

Depending on whether you are just keeping sharp or working on something specific, things would be adjusted. It's a hard question to answer, but when I have limited time, I spend it on the short game, and that feel of having hands ahead of the club, solid contact, divot ahead of the ball, seems to translate whether I work a lot on longer clubs or not. Not saying it always or usually works, but that's what I'm hoping for.

Just get a small bucket. Make sure between shots you take time to set your grip, stance and alignment. Develop a consistent pre-shot routine. Proper setup is the most important part of the golf swing.

It really depends what you need the most work on.

For me i work on 1 thing per day, and i alternate. example: monday:irons, tuesday:approach, pitching Wedsnesday: short game and etc.

Then again i practice about 4 times per week, and go out once a week.

But when you practice, take time hitting the ball instead of mindlessly hitting them. Reset your body after 3 balls and pretend its a real game. try to focus on your alignments. I know it might look gay, but bring a camera or a mirror with you and set it up. post what you are doing and that way you will improve 3x faster.

There really isn't anything that is mindless about hitting balls. Even if you don't have a plan you still aid your hand/eye coordination. So although it isn't the most beneficial, you still get something out of it.

I don't know what to tell you. Work on whatever you're trying to improve. Isn't that the point of practice? Find a thing that you want to focus on and do it.

I imagine if someone is asking for a practice routine they aren't experienced so I'm not sure what you can practice. I've recently been working on a rebuild of my swing and it's just about done so I've had things to work on all the way up. But I've become conscious of every element of my swing now and I've developed a feel and knowledge for exactly how every part should feel and be executed and I can diagnose when a ball goes a few yards left or right or doesn't get the distance by a few rads or whatever. And then work on not doing that.

So it's different for everyone. If you aren't conscious of your swing then I'm not sure what I can tell you to practice other than just mindlessly whack balls for awhile. It does help and after about 20,000 whacked balls maybe you get good at it?

Each person is different and what they are working on.

I personally work on my short game.

1) focusing on making solid contact
2) distance control and know what lenght backswing produces what distance for each club
3) direction.

once I hit solid contact with my wedge shots, I would move onto the low irons PW, 8 iron and the mid irons 7 - 6 irons and work a bit on fairway wood, hybrids and finally the driver.

another drill that has help me is for me to go out with only one club, PW, 8, 7 or 6 iron and only hit ball with this club to sharpen up my iron play.

If I am playing the next day, I want to practice putting focusing on straight putts and lag distance putting.

Any day that it's not raining I'm at the course down the road from where I work practicing on my lunch break. Keep in mind that I usually go to the range after work as well and practice some more so what I do may not exactly fit into your schedule.

Usually on my lunch break, I'll grab a small bucket once or twice a week and then the other days I'll simply work on my short game (mostly putting).

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
