Just need a little help. I'm in the market for some new wedges and I pretty much narrowed it down to the two mentioned above. Was hoping to get some reviews from the people out there playing them day to day.. Thanks for the help.

well i play vokeys.. my 58 is spin milled and my 52 is not... the spin milled is great for shots that u want to stop but are short distance.. it really does the trick.. however... i got the 58 because its about a 85 yarder on a full swing and i mainly wanted it for half shots and around the greens. BE WARNED: it literally takes bites out of my ball on full shots and it will spin back up to 15 feet from a full fairway shot. I try and keep from ever having to hit it full because ill be picking some of my ball out of the grooves. my 52.. although it is not spin milled backs up very sharply as well. my point? vokeys have rather sharp grooves in all the lineup. the spin milled wedges are great for the short shots that u want to check up or stop dead.. im sure the zip grooves on TM are very similar.. but Im from the vokey side and the spin milled wedges work if you can utilize them well.

I've never tried the TM wedges but i'm sure they spin as good as any other premium wedge. I think I'd go for the TM just on looks alone lol, very good looking wedges.

Same as him. But with wedges I always look for the ones that feel the best to me. If possible, go try both of these out.

I have the RAC Z TP 60* Lob wedge and it is great. Plenty of spin and has good feel. Its great for tight shots, lob shots and chipping

I agree...these are the best looking wedges I've ever seen. I saw a newer edition that was "smoke" finished...OMG.....very nice looking scoring weapon.

I don't have a clue how they stack up against the others, though. I'm smitten with my basic old G5 wedges....love 'em for the results.

I have the 56* and 60* TP Z. Love both of these. Great feel and great lines. The heads are a little smaller so if you like the look of a bigger head this is probably not the right club for you. Not as many bounce options as the vokeys so if you are particular about your specs you may not find what you want with the TM's. Either way you really cannot go wrong.

i have 4 vokeys and i like them all very much. the spin mill really helps controll ballflight with spin.
many players cant put spin on the ball with less than a full swing because they cant attack the ball with the accelleration and hip movement neccessary to rip it back but with the vokeys you really dont need to put to much effort into spinning it, i can pull it back from about a half swing with a wedge.

with the new groove rule too you also have to consider durability.

I've played with a 2002 60 vokey wedge which I just replaced today. It lasted 7 seasons of VERY rough play (4-6 times a week)

Hi everyone new to the forum today so go easy on me while i settle in!!!
Have tried both the vokeys and the Tm's....went for the vokeys bought 3 of them. Just found that i got more out of the vokey in terms of distance, spin was pretty much the same on both.

I bet your going to get more good reviews from the Vokey's, just because a lot more people have them. Titleist is a respected and admired name in golf. But TaylorMade is making it's way to that same standard.

My suggestion is to try and go to a local shop or proshop that carries the TM Zip wedges (because everyone has the Vokey's), and see if you can demo them. If that's not really a possibility, then I'd have to go with the TM Zip's. They have around the same amount of spin and control of Vokey's, but with a much better look. What you want with wedges is a sense of control, and confidence. If either of those are lacking, you won't be good with your wedges. Good luck!

I have the vokeys but have also tried the tm's from a few friends personally i think the tm's are more teardrop and a bit lighter than the vokeys but they both spin just the same amount just a matter of personal preference. BTW i also think the tm's feel a bit firmer off the face

    • It probably wouldn't matter if he stood on one foot — if he was still for a second, the water would likely recede and not be visible.
    • The rules can t cover every possible situation, this one is reasonably clear.  How would you rewrite it to fairly cover the situation you ask, and would it be better or more consistently understood? I think the announcers saw spray from the practice swings, and ASSUMED that there must be standing water there.  But wet turf will produce spray.  And of course Faxon was a tour player, so he views it from a players standpoint.  But players often don't understand the rules really well.  Its a shame they didn't get an actual rules expert at that moment, we know the USGA had people available.
    • Fair enough. By wiggly I just mean the bit about stepping hard or the like doesn't count. Like, what if the player says they plan on playing the lie with massive weight on the front foot and ball back in the stance to try ensure no bounce interaction to prevent the club getting sucked into the soggy turf before the ball, and it's only with ~80% of weight on the front foot that you can see water? But I was more wondering what the announcers were complaining about?
    • Shot a 48, with not lost ball, no penalties, no bunkers, no 2nd short game shots, and no three putts.
    • Day 5 - extremely long range practice session. Probably one of my best practice sessions ever. Doing things in slow motion is like 5x'ing the effectiveness of the practice. Also, I need these same "falling into lead leg" feels on my wedges. And guess what? Practicing this feel on shorter wedges is ALSO EASIER AND MORE EFFECTIVE. Combining much slower than full speed practice with shorter (50-90 yard) shot practice was really good. Change the picture on these shorter shots first. Feel like I'm keeping my arms as straight as possible on the backswing while hinging my wrists earlier is an incredible feel. I feel like this is doing stuff to my sequencing somehow? Much less rushed at the top because hinging was done at a reasonable time? One note someone made on my swing thread before I went on a hiatus was regarding this so I played around with it.  Clubs that don't require as much weight/pressure shift feel fantastic (driver/3-wood/hybrid), but that's almost always been the case.
