Okay so I'm hopefully going to complete my set this year. I already have the Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and sand wedge I want. I am going to get a new putter and a lob wedge sometime. My question is, wood it be a problem if I got the tm r7's for a set of irons since they are 4-aw? Cuz I was thinking I might need a 3 iron but I only use mine on tight par 5's mainly, so I don't think it will be a problem, especially since I'll be filling the gap between my pw and sw. I can hit my 4 iron 210-220, and my 5 wood usually 230, so I wouldn't be leaving a huge gap I don't think. My yardages are something like this: Driver: 260-300, 3 wood: 240-260, 5 wood: 230-240, 3 iron: 220-230, 4 iron: 210-220, 5 iron: 200-210, 6 iron: 190-200, 7 iron: 170-180, 8 iron: 150-160, 9 iron: 140-150, Pw: 120-130, Sw: 100-115. Based on these, doesn't it seem like it wouldn't matter if I ditched the 3 iron? I think it overlaps too much with the 5 wood to be worth it. I'd much rather have that gap wedge for those mid approaches between my pw and sw. Whadda you guys think? Also it's funny how once I get to my 7 iron I drop an extra 10 yards in distance, and again with my pw. Guess I gotta work on the lower clubs more.

I think the best person that would know the answer to your question is you. you know your game the best out of anyone here. this is a question that nobody on here can answer better than you can. you can always swap out clubs depending on what the conditions are on the given course you are playing

If you think you need another club, get a 3 hybrid, i love hybrid clubs and can hit them farther than regular irons, perhaps adding a taylormade rescue hybrid to go with your r7's

If you are looking for a club to replace specifically your 3 iron, then you need a 4 hybrid, NOT a 3 hybrid. Most people hit one more club length longer with hybrids. (depends on your iron loft degrees) For example, if your 3 iron is 19 degrees, then probably want to go with something like a 23 degree hybrid to get the same yardage.

The set is fine, if that's the set you want. The fact of the matter is that not all 3-irons are created equally, and the 4I in that set might well be the loft of the 3I in your current set (whether or not this affects distance, or if the cavities and loft angles combine to produce the same distance is sometimes debated on this board).

My suggestion: if those are the irons you want, get them (and get them fit, of course) and play a round or two. Figure out where, if anywhere, your gaps are, and then figure out what clubs go into that gap. It might be a 3-iron, or 3-hybrid, or 4-hybrid, or your gap might not be there, and then you can grab an extra wedge, or a hybrid "just in case," or play with 13 clubs, or an alter-handed club, and so on.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get them, but no hybrid. I'll just go straight from my 5 wood to 4 iron. I need a new putter (I'm doing awful with the one I have now and am already set on the spider balero, I've tried it and it's just amazing.), and a lob wedge for those short pitches and flops. I'm probably gonna have to wait until Christmas to get the irons, I won't have enough money until then probably. I'm gonna be working on a deck with my dad starting in 2 weeks, and he says I can probably earn 200 or maybe even 300 bucks, so after that's done I'll probably get them, if not then christmas for sure. But, I am set on the r7's regardless, just gotta wait a while.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
