I had one today.. Par 5... smoked a three wood, mis hit a 9 iron, had about a 20 footer for eagle. Ran it about four feet by. next one is way down hill, respect it too much and run it 3 by, then miss the come back three footer.. my confidence was ruined from the holes before.. happily i came out with a bogey and birdied the next and bogeyed the last hole after having a whopping forty yards into the green... Some days i guess

3-wood off the tee, then a mis-hit nine iron to 20 feet from the pin on a par 5? I'd say the 4-putt was karma. And, yes, I've had several.

Had one on Thursday actually. Was at a highschool match and was on the 3rd hole 205yd par 3, hit 5 iron onto green about 40' away from the cup. Hit the ground with my putter and screwed up my first putt. The I hit my second one too hard and went past the hole, hit my third putt uphill and lipped it, then I finally sank #4. Shot a 43 on that front 9.

Even though putting is the strongest part of my game, I still struggle with the putter on some days.
All you can do is chalk it up to a not so good day with the putter and put it behind you.

1st tournament of the year this year I had a 5 putt!!!! Approached hit the wrong level of a two tear green.

1st putt doesnt make it up the hill and comes back to me.
2nd putt (I think wont do that again) blow it 10ft past
3rd lips out to about 1ft
4th lips out after I say to my playing partners "heres my 4 putt for the year"
5th goes in

Finished 2nd in my flight in that tournament.... oh what could have been

On the bright side the next hole is a long uphill par four that I was left with a wedge in to the green after showing the ball how much I hated it after a 5 putt..... big drive

I've had a few... hell, I've even had to chip after the occaisional putt. Play enough Donald Ross designs and you're bound to putt off a few greens here and there.

So true, I've had a 4 putt with 2 chips on top of it. 2 years ago on Pinehurst #2, 5th hole, pin was back left, near the edge, I was front right, first putt trickles past the hole, goes 20 feet down the slope, 1st chip gets on the edge of the green, about 4 feet from hole, comes back to my feet. Next chip ends up where my first putt started from, and I 3 putted from there. Thank you, Mr. Donald Ross.

The last two I remember were pretty ugly - one on the second hole at the Golden Horseshoe's Gold Course - got above the hole and left my first putt short of a ridge, then ran the second one 10 ft past, missed coming back.

In June at the Pen-Am, I 4-putted 15 at Deer Run - part of an earth-shattering 80 on Sunday.

Nope....never.

I swore when I came up with this user name that I'd never, ever do anything to live up to it. That said, I've probably had one, but it's a very rare occurrence. I certainly can't remember the last time.

I can remember one (there may be others, I just don't remember). The embarrassing thing about it was that it was during a 2 person scramble and our first putt was only about 4 feet away. We bogeyed our 1st hole and then on the 2nd hole we had about 4 feet. The cup was right on the edge of a tiered slope. My partner missed and went down the hill, I lipped out and went down the hill. Next putt didn't make it up and came back down to where we were. Then we got it on the top level finally and made the next putt for a double bogey 6. +3 after 2 holes. We did get it back to 9 under after 17 and finished at 8 under (it was an easy course). Finished in 2nd. Without the 4-putt, who knows.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Nah thats a Texas wedge. (when you put from the fringe or off the green) I used to do that before i mastered the 7i-PW bumb and run.

    • Starting over - missed posting yesterday and it had been less than 28 days since last off day….today was tempo drill day.  Worked on takeaway and moving smoothly into weight shift.
    • I know it is probably dependent on a lot of factors, but how windy does it have to be out before you need to start guessing on how much it would influence the break of your putt?  When I played at Bandon, it was like 25-30 mph winds. The caddies talked about the wind negating break. The only time I had it visually influence my putt was on hole 18 at Bandon Dunes. My missed my putt on the high side of a pretty severe breaking putt. The slope around the hole was in the 2-3 degree range. As the ball was about to come to a stop, the wind gusted and pushed the ball half a rotation into the cup.  The rest of the week I thought it had no influence at all. I was thinking, is it just over thinking to try to account for the wind?
    • Day 310 - 2025-08-06 Went downtown in the late afternoon and got nearly two hours of work in. Not a ton of breaks. Was blasting the TS at the end, from a HomePod and two TVs. 😄
    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
